Exploring the Gifts of Learning Differently™
SUMMER STUDY (pre-k-12) The Lewis School’s acclaimed research-based Academic Support and Enrichment for students who learn differently help many children avoid a “summer slide,” while keeping others tuned and ahead for the coming school year. Each student is provided four focused weeks of multisensory strategy and structure that promote mastery, confidence and new learning. Classes are planned according to personal need, aptitude and interest, and taught by trained, experienced Language Specialists. Morning academics emphasize basic and higher level reading, writing, spelling, math, auditory processing, comprehension and critical thinking. Our Speech Pathologists offer programs that develop effective Executive Functioning for children who struggle with homework and are disorganized, anxious and forgetful. Afternoon options are ideal for artistic, athletic and STEM oriented students. Lewis is NJAIS and NAIS accredited.
Outdoor Adventurer/Biking and Swimming….August 4-15 Have you ever wondered how to use a compass? Or, how to build a fire without a match? Children will play and explore as they become “Outdoor Adventurers” during this session. Our young naturalists will learn to rely on and hone their five senses as they explore some amazing aspects of the natural world. Riding a bicycle is a wonderful way for children to feel free and enjoy summer days. Do you remember playing in the “great outdoors” as a child? For a wide range of reasons, today’s children are simply not experiencing as much active play time as their parents did. In fact, a new term is used to describe this trend; it’s called “nature deficit disorder” (Richard Louv, 2008). Session includes weekly swimming instruction at the YWCA in Princeton. In the afternoons, we will enjoy team building activities and cooperative adventures as we learn to bike or hone our existing skills. Please bring bike to camp.
CANCELED DUE TO CV-19 - Watershed Nature Camp 2020
With great sadness, we’ve concluded that we are not able to deliver camp the way we’ve enjoyed together in the past. The safety and well-being of our campers and the community is always our top priority when planning for the summer. With the coronavirus still present in our region, we cannot maintain the level of safety, education, companionship, and fun that we strive for at Watershed Nature Camp. Our staff have been investigating alternative programming for the summer and are continuing to work on providing activities and programs over the summer.
