Princeton Area Airports

There are four major international airports convenient to Princeton. Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) is 40 miles north on Route 95 and Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) is 55 miles south on Route 95. JFK International Airport (JFK) and LaGuardia International Airport (LGA) are considerably farther away but can be reached using car or public transportation. There are also two local airports, Princeton Airport and Mercer County Airport.

Trains

Princeton Junction is the main train station along the Northeast Corridor for Amtrak and New Jersey Transit. Visitors can take a cab to Princeton or transfer to a one car train called the "Dinky". The train ride takes about 5 minutes, and drops you at University Place across from McCarter Theatre.

SEPTA (Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority)

When traveling from Princeton to Philadelphia, there are two SEPTA options:

  1. Take I-95 South to exit 2, take Bear Tavern Road to the West Trenton Train Station and then take SEPTA R3 to Philadelphia.
  2. Go to Princeton Junction and take NJ Transit to the Trenton Station and switch to the SEPTA R7 to Philadelphia

Driving Directions To Princeton

From New York City and the North
Take the New Jersey Turnpike south to Exit 9 (New Brunswick). After the toll booths, take an immediate right onto Route 18 north. Take the immediate left fork, stay in the right lane, and bear right onto Route 1 south for Trenton. Various entrances to Princeton are found off of Route 1, including Raymond Road to Route 27, Harrison Street, Washington Road (about 18 miles south on Route 1 from the Turnpike) and Alexander Road.

From the West
Take Interstate 78 east into New Jersey, exiting onto Interstate 287 south (towards Somerville). Follow signs for Routes 202/206 south. Go south on Route 202 and then follow signs to 206 south. Take the traffic circle and continue onto Route 206 South for about 18 miles to Nassau Street (Route 27).

From Philadelphia and the South
Take the New Jersey Turnpike (Interstate 95) north until Route 1 north (Exit 67). Various entrances to Princeton are found off of Route 1, including Provence Line Road, Alexander Road, Washington Road, and Harrison Street. Washington Road is about 3 miles off of the Turnpike.

From the East
Take Interstate 195 West (towards Trenton) to the Interstate 295 North exit. In approximately seven miles, take the exit for Route 1 North (Exit 67). Various entrances to Princeton are found off of Route 1, including Provence Line Road, Alexander Road, Washington Road, and Harrison Street. Washington Road is about 3 miles north on Route 1.
