The Bunbury Company Awards 2013 Grant of $10,000 to The Crisis Ministry; will strengthen the organization’s Housing Stability Case Management Program

(TRENTON, NJ) — A 2013 grant of $10,000 awarded by the Bunbury Company will support The Crisis Ministry of Mercer County, Inc., in advancing its Housing Stability Case Management program. The program assists families and individuals who have experienced homelessness or an imminent threat of homelessness and continue to struggle with barriers to housing stability. It involves working closely with the families to secure and remain in housing, establish connections to supportive services, and, in the long term, achieve long term housing stability and improved self-sufficiency.

Cynthia Mendez, Director of the Crisis Ministry’s Housing Stability Services, said, “We are grateful for this support from The Bunbury Company, as it will enable our Case Management program to end homelessness for more families and lay the groundwork for them to work toward stability.”

In addition to assisting households in an imminent threat of homelessness, the Crisis Ministry’s Housing Stability Case Management program helps individuals and families who have become homeless to quickly secure permanent housing and then to address other barriers to their long-term stability. This model, known as Rapid Re-housing, has been shown to be an effective strategy for addressing homelessness by the National Alliance to End Homelessness and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The Bunbury Company, a private grant making foundation, is located in Hopewell Borough, New Jersey. It supports charitable organizations primarily in the Central New Jersey area.

The Crisis Ministry of Mercer County, Inc., is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded in 1980 by Nassau Presbyterian Church and Trinity Church to respond to local struggles brought on by the nationwide recession of the time. Today, the organization provides vital assistance to some 5,000 households each year through effective initiatives that address hunger insecurity and nutrition education; housing stability and homelessness prevention; and job readiness and employment stability. The organization also conducts weekly bilingual nutrition classes with the Rutgers Extension Service and quarterly “Lunch and Learn” health screenings with partner Capital Health System’s Community Health Education Department. For more information on the organization, visit thecrisisministry.org or call 609-396-5327.
