Sinfonietta Nova’s upcoming Family Concert is a celebration of music and rising star musicians. Audiences of all ages will be delighted by Benjamin Britten’s Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra (with narration) as well as Purcell’s Suite from Abdelazer, which was Britten’s Young Person’s inspiration and theme source.
In addition, the orchestra will showcase winners of the Sinfonietta Nova First Youth Concerto Competition. The competition was open to residents throughout the state of New Jersey, up to age 18. Both Top Winners (Soyeong Park, 14, First Place, and Brian Kim, 16, First Runner-Up) are local students who live in West Windsor, and attend West Windsor-Plainsboro schools. Soyeong will perform Chausson’s Poeme for Violin and Orchestra, and Brian will perform Glazunov’s Concerto for Alto Saxophone. The Special Recognition for a Young Artist award went to 10-year-old Enrique Rodrigues, of Fair Lawn, New Jersey, who will perform Sarasate’s Zigeunerweisen. These young artists can serve as inspiration to their peers - tomorrow’s finest musicians.
The Family Concert will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 7:30PM, at the Mayo Concert Hall, The College of New Jersey, 2000 Pennington Road, Ewing, NJ, under the baton of Artistic Director and Conductor Gail H. Lee.
Tickets are available at the door or online at www.sinfoniettanova.org for $15 (general admission), $12 (seniors), $8 (students); children under 12 are admitted free. Please visit the website for more information.
