"Compassion Camp" - Free Virtual Sunday School at Princeton United Methodist Church This Fall
As we look around the world, what becomes clearer each day is our deep need for compassion. “We have been reflecting on concerns about racism and Covid, and how we can address those in a range of ages,” says Rev. Jenny Smith Walz, lead pastor at Princeton United Methodist Church (PrincetonUMC).
With its ‘bricks and mortar” location on Nassau Street, opposite the Garden Theatre, Princeton UMC is a diverse congregation whose members come from many surrounding communities, backgrounds, and faith histories. All are invited to virtual worship services on Sundays at 10 a.m.
All families with children ages 2 through 5th grade are invited to a 10-week Compassion Camp, aiming to help children cultivate compassion for each other, themselves, and the world. “We must put compassion into action at home and in our communities,” says Evangeline Burgers, director of children’s ministry.
Register at https://princetonumc.breezechms.com/form/ compassioncamp or go to PrincetonUMC.org for information. Middle schoolers have their own Sunday morning program, and youth in middle school and high school meet on Sunday evenings. Kits with necessary supplies will be delivered to each Compassion Camper’s home. Focusing on the scripture passage for each week, activities will include: music, games, collaborative art, yoga positions to act out the story & family Compassion-in-Action activities.
Research shows families are the most essential component to spiritual development, says Burgers. Faith formation “can’t just be happening on Sunday morning. We can help families find ways to sit around the dinner table and have conversations about compassion, about how we can take action to lift up those who are oppressed. “
