Holiday cheer will fill Richardson Auditorium when the Princeton Symphony Orchestra presents its annual Holiday POPS! concert, this year welcoming back the popular New Jersey Tap Dance Ensemble (NJTAP). The lighthearted concert takes place Saturday, December 15 at 4 pm.
Music Director Rossen Milanov, always a joyful presence on the podium, leads the PSO in a program that will bring families and friends together in celebration of the holidays. The most eagerly awaited performance is “March of the Toys” from Babes in Toyland, where dancers from NJTAP will bring to life the wooden soldiers from the classic Christmas tale, with music by Victor Herbert.
PSO board member John Ellis takes the stage as narrator in Bill Holcombe’s charming setting of ’Twas the Night Before Christmas, and audiences young and old will love the familiar, enchanting tunes from Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker. Continuing a longtime Holiday POPS! tradition, the Princeton High School Choir joins the PSO for several works, including Mozart’s Veni Sancte Spiritus.
To cap off the concert, Leroy Anderson’s festive Sleigh Ride, portrays a magical journey through a winter wonderland in the famed one-horse open sleigh. And, no Holiday POPS! concert would be complete without the PSO’s carol sing-along, which each year joins the voices of the community together in the holiday spirit.
