Unearthing a Story: James Garfield, Hopewell Library

Though his presidency was cut short by an assassin’s bullet, James A. Garfield left behind a remarkable collection of correspondence. Join us to help digitize these fascinating historical documents. Participants are encouraged to bring a laptop; a limited number are available on site. Unearthing a Story, One Page at a Time is a collaborative transcription series where volunteers convert historical documents into searchable digital text, supporting researchers, genealogists, and the preservation of history for future generations. Registration is requested.

A Continental Army encampment with demonstrations; talks by George Washington and Daniel Bray; children’s activities all day; tours of Holcombe House (where Washington stayed twice) and the barns; presentations on local history during the revolution; historical exhibits. What was it like to grow up in West Windsor hundreds of years ago? Bring the whole family to discover the magic of the Colonial Era (1600-1700s). Our friends from the West Windsor Historical Society will share cozy folk talks and local legends during a special storytime. Afterwards, get creative at our craft stations where we will make traditional colonial keepsakes to take home. For ages 5-11 years. Sponsored by the Friends of the West Windsor Library.
