Based on the Victor Hugo novel and songs from the Disney animated feature, this daring production by The Pennington Players sets the classic tale of love, vengeance, and compassion to one of the most sweeping scores ever written for the stage. It’s the only stage collaboration between two masters of American musical theatre: Alan Menken (Disney’s The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast) and Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin). Israeli American NY based musicians Shira Averbuch and Dan Nadel come together in a special tribute concert celebrating Leonard Cohen’s life and music as we reach his first yartzheit. They will be joined by special guests Hazzan George Mordecai of Temple Israel Congregation, White Plains and readings by Rabbi Aubrey Glazer of Congregation Beth Sholom, San Francisco, from his book Tangle of Matter & Ghost: Leonard Cohen’s Post-Secular Songbook of Jewish Mysticism(s) and Beyond. You will follow your guide on a trail of glowing Jack O' Lanterns; along the way you stop to meet the characters in an Irish Folktale that unfolds along the path. The founders of New Jersey's Original Jack O' Lantern Night Hike are bringing their 30-year tradition to a new home at the Watershed. While other Halloween programs are designed to frighten, our goal is to educate and enchant.
