5 Local Wineries for Bottles at Your Thanksgiving Table

5 Local Wineries for Bottles at Your Thanksgiving Table

Thanksgiving is upon us. And we’ve rounded up 5 local wineries to shop from for wine for this year’s Thanksgiving table.

Crossing Vineyards Winery

1853 Wrightstown Road, Washington Crossing PA

Kids usually follow their parents into the family business. But in the case of Crossing Vineyards and Winery, the parents followed their kid. When Tom Carroll Jr. was just 10 years old, he looked out the window of the 200-year-old historic home his parents had purchased on 20 acres in Bucks County, Pa. and said “this would make a great vineyard.”

Some 15 years later, after working as an actor in California and expanding his knowledge in viticulture and enology, Tom Jr. returned home. In 2000 he partnered with his parents, Christine and Tom Carroll Sr., and established Crossing Vineyards and Winery. Crossing’s first vines were planted in April 2002, and after nearly two years of preparation, Tom Jr., became one of Pennsylvania’s youngest vintners at the age of 27.

Their wine would make an excellent addition to your Thanksgiving table. You can order online and pick up curbside OR get it shipped home. Orders of $125 receive 10% off and one of $225+ get 15% off. The winery is also offering free shipping for orders over $125.

While their white list includes Chardonnay, Legacy, Pinot Grigio, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Vidal Blanc, Vintner’s Select White and Viognier; their Red list lists wine varieties like Cabernet Franc, Cabernet-Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chambourcin, Heritage, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Vintner's Select Red. They also have a specialty wine list that includes apple, blush, peach, chocolate cherry truffle and more.

Terhune Orchards

330 Cold Soil Road, Princeton

In 2006, Gary and Tannwen planted  five acres of grapes. They planted 12 varieties to see what would grow well in our climate, with the largest amounts in Chamborcin, Vidal Blanc, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Traminette.  After four years of loving care, the first crop of grapes were harvested in 2009. By September of 2010, the wine was in the bottle with seven varieties and the Terhune Orchards tasting room was open at the farm’s historic barn. Son-in-law Mike Hanewald and Gary had spent several years perfecting Apple Wine made from Terhune Orchards own apple cider, so that was added to the list of offerings.

The vineyards have been expanded to 9 acres of grapes and 14 varieties of wine, including three fruit wines made from Terhune Orchards’ own apple cider.
