Lewis School Unveils New Playground

Princeton, NJ — The Lewis School of Princeton proudly unveiled its new playground on Friday, October 22, during its Annual Grandparent’s Day celebration.  Marsha Lewis, founder and director of the school, dedicated the playground to the children of The Lewis School—past, present and future.

The playground was designed by Marsha Lewis and built specifically for multisensory learning.  The equipment supports and strengthens the sensory and gross motor development needs of learning different children.  Construction was undertaken by the Portland, Oregon-based, Columbia Cascade Company, a leader in the “Green Playground Revolution.”

The newly constructed playground was made possible through the dedication and determination of two current Lewis School parents, Mrs. Lori Billyard and Mrs. Leslie Clark, with the strong support of the Lewis community behind them.  Funding for the playground was generated through a number of different projects and fundraising efforts, including:  Pennies for Playground, Box Tops for Education, Grandparent’s Day Art Auction, Flower Power, Egg-centric egg sales, Barefoot Book Fair, Lower School Play ads, ticket sales, and DVDs, as well as private donations.

With Phase 1 of the playground completed in September 2010, The Lewis School is already looking ahead to Phase 2.  Preliminary discussions include the extension of the playground, redesign of the landscape to accentuate the play area and new swings.
