Painting Life by Alison Kruse @Stuart's Considine Gallery

OCTOBER 4 through NOVEMBER 20
Opening Reception: October 4, 2-3:30 PM

Alison Kruse is a Canadian figurative painter based in Toronto. She recently participated in the Turps Residency Program in London, England, and is a two-time recipient of the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant. Her work is rooted in a search for truth, with a focus on faithfully representing her lived experiences and emotional responses to the world around her. Drawing inspiration from landscapes and the psychological impact of place, she explores the interplay between memory, place, emotion, and how this lands in the body. She desires to find what it means to thrive in an environment.  Each painting aims to recreate a specific tone or feeling—a sensory imprint of a moment or scene.

Her process is intuitive and fast-paced, often guided by music, allowing the work to unfold with emotional clarity. She combines drawing, painting, and material experimentation to approach each piece as a visual journal entry—an honest record of observation, sensation, and self-reflection. This allows her to engage with both her internal world and external surroundings, mapping the ways they mirror, challenge, and inform each other. Driven by curiosity and a commitment to truth, she strives to be honest with herself, with her materials, and with the world around her.
