TrashedArt Contest - Mercer County Library System - Remake, Reuse and Renew the items you would recycle or throw in the trash into something unique and beautiful and rethink the usefulness of garbage. The contest celebrates Earth Day by encouraging patrons to turn ordinary trash into extraordinary art. Held annually in April. Contest Guidelines Adults and teens (ages 14 and up) who live, work or go to school in Mercer County are eligible to participate. The contest is limited to one entry per artist. JFCS of Greater Mercer County Announces the Rose & Louis H. Linowitz Mensch Award - This is a merit-based award for deserving Jewish eighth-grade and high school senior students living in Greater Mercer County. Candidates should exemplify what it means to be a mensch – a person of integrity and honor, a doer of good deeds, and an all-around good person. Students must be nominated by a member of the community such as a Rabbi, educator, youth group advisor, secular school guidance counselor, teacher, etc. Eighth-grade Mensch-In-Training and high school senior Mensch Award winners will receive prizes up to $750 and $4,000 respectively. This is not a need-based scholarship.Selected winners are required to attend a recognition event to receive their Award on April 16, 2026. Applications are due by March 9, 2026. Student Musicians are Eligible for the Caprio Competition 2026 sponsored by the Riverside Symphonia. The 2026 Caprio Young Artists Competition is open to classical instrumentalists (excluding keyboard), who reside or study in New Jersey, New York or Pennsylvania and will be no older than 22 years of age on Saturday, April 18, 2026. AARP FREE TAX ASSISTANCE 2026 - CMAP (In-Person at SPB Location) Fridays starting February 6 through April 10, 9:30 a.m.–2:00 p.m. AARP sponsors free tax assistance for seniors and low- and moderate-income individuals through the AARP Tax-Aide program. IRS-certified AARP volunteers will prepare and electronically file individual federal and New Jersey state returns. Adopt-A-Plot at the Billy Johnson Mountain Lakes Nature Preserve
Friends of Princeton Open Space invites individuals, families, Eagle Scout candidates, schools, and community groups to participate in the new Adopt-A-Plot program. Volunteers "adopt" a 50 ft × 50 ft plot within the 25-acre riparian restoration project at the Billy Johnson Mountain Lakes Nature Preserve and commit to removing invasive plants, fundraising for native plantings, and planting in the spring or fall. 2/5 - Annual Youth Art Show, Boys & Girls Clubs of Mercer, 6-8pm.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Mercer County will host its annual Youth Art Show on February 5th at the Spruce Street Club, celebrating the creativity, voice, and collective power of young people. This year's exhibition, themed "The Power of Us," features immersive, site-based installations created by Club members that explore unity, identity, imagination, and shared impact.
Community members, partners, donors, and supporters are invited to attend from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and experience the creativity and talent of local youth firsthand at the Spruce Street Club, located at 1040 Spruce Street, Lawrence Township, NJ.

2/7 - Maple Sugaring at The Watershed
Multiple times: 10 – 11:30 a.m. | 12:30 – 2 p.m. | 2:30 – 4 p.m.
Join Watershed Education staff to discover the history, folklore and science of maple sugaring. Visit our maple trees, find out how we tap them using drills and spiles, and try a sample of sweet maple sugar. Learn about the evaporation process and how sticky sap transforms into sweet maple syrup. The operation of our outdoor evaporator is dependent on the amount of sap the trees produce and the weather. It may not be running during all program sessions. Dress for both indoors and outdoors and wear your boots! Patches are available for purchase in the gift shop on the day of the program. 2/8 - All-Ages Folk Dance, Princeton Country Dancers, 3-5pm.
Our family-friendly dance features square dances, contra dances, play party games, other traditional American dances, and sometimes folk dances from around the world. It's great fun for the whole family, from young children (ages 4 and up) to parents and grandparents and other adult friends. No partner or experience is needed. The dances will be led by our local callers; live music will be provided by the Mixed Age Dance Band. Musicians of all ages and abilities are welcome to join the MAD Band - there is a rehearsal immediately before each family dance from 2:15 - 3:00 pm. "Not Just a Pleasure Trip": American Jewish Women's Travel to Mandate Palestine in the Early 1900s - In the early 20th century, American Jewish women took advantage of a global rise in tourism to visit British Mandate Palestine in surprisingly large numbers. Melissa R. Klapper (Rowan University) shows how these women tested their ideals there, sparking new ways of thinking about themselves as Americans, women, and Jews. Free and open to the public. 2/11 - Pop-Up Art Studio: Create, Connect, and Unwind – CMAP, 5:30-7:30pm., An evening Pop-Up Art Studio: Create, Connect, and Unwind, a welcoming drop-in pop-up art studio where creativity meets the community. Every second Wednesday evening of the month, from 5:30-7:30 p.m., adults are welcome to relax, recharge, and express themselves through art in a supportive judgement-free environment. Each session includes a fun, minimally guided project, along with music, light snacks, and open creative time. 2/11 - Next Generation Faith & Health Initiative: A Public Conversation
Location: Princeton Public Library, 5-6pm.
We welcome guests to join us for refreshments beginning at 4:30 pm.
This public conversation will bring together Suzanne Watts Henderson and Dr. Almeda Wright for a dialogue moderated by President Jonathan Lee Walton. Together, they will explore how faith and spirituality shape health, resilience, and well-being across generations. Drawing from neuroscience, public health, and theological reflection, the panel will consider how faith can serve as a vital resource for healing and flourishing, particularly for young people and communities. Open to students, faculty, and members of the wider Princeton community, this public gathering will model how scholarship and faith-based leadership can intersect to advance a holistic and interdisciplinary approach to human flourishing, in service of the common good. This month, we will pack simple hygiene kits and make cards for people experiencing their first night in a homeless shelter. 2/16 - Great Backyard Bird Count, Friends of Princeton Open Space, 10-11:30am. Join the Friends of Princeton Open Space (FOPOS) and South Jersey Wildlife Tours on Monday, February 16th at 10 a.m. We’ll walk the trails at the Billy Johnson Mountain Lakes Nature Preserve to observe and count bird species as part of the Great Backyard Bird Count, a worldwide community science project that helps researchers better understand bird populations. Along the way, learn tips for attracting wildlife to your own backyard and hear how FOPOS is working to protect and restore your backyard—our local open spaces. Morven Museum Stockton Educational Center, 55 Stockton St, Princeton NJ. This month Kathy Easton will talk about Central Jersy birds, their migration habits, and return from distant wintering grounds. Their migration is timed to arrive during the explosion of protein-rich larva, aka caterpillars, a primary food for baby songbirds. Birds are fascinating creatures and watchable wildlife Kathy Easton is a New Jersey birder for 40 years and has been active in non-formal environmental education featuring our avian neighbors since 1998. In addition to walks and talks about birds, she volunteers as an Associate Naturalist with NJ Audubon, is a Rutgers Master Gardener Volunteer of Mercer County, and chairs the Cranbury Shade Tree Commission. Families supporting loved ones with long-term care needs often face difficult legal and planning decisions. Families, caregivers, professionals, and community members are invited to gain a better understanding of legal pathways that protect loved ones with dignity and respect. Participants will learn the basics of estate and long-term care planning, including wills, decision-making authority, guardianship, inheritance considerations, Medicaid planning, and the benefits of planning ahead rather than reacting in a crisis. 2/20 - Pathways to Preparedness, Lawrence Branch Library, 2pm.
Seniors and people with disabilities are warmly welcomed to a free, in person 90 minute emergency preparedness training at the Lawrence Headquarters Branch of the Mercer County Library System on Friday, February 20 at 2:00 pm. The training is provided by the Progressive Center for Independent Living, supported by a grant through the NJ Department of Human Services. Trainers Gerald "Jerry" Carbone, Renee Pfaff, and Bill Donohue will guide participants in building a personalized "Go Kit," creating communication and evacuation plans, identifying community resources, and increasing confidence in navigating unexpected situations. 2/21 - Artwork that Inspires Others - Workshop with Artist in Residence, WWAC, 2-4pm. This workshop invites participants to discover the powerful connection between words, music, and visual art. Each participant is encouraged to bring in a favorite poem or song—something meaningful and personally inspiring. Through guided discussion and creative exploration, participants will learn how to find visual imagery within the music or poem and translate that to an original piece of artwork. 2/24 - Navigating College Admissions for Students with Learning Differences, Lawrence Branch, 6:30pm
This seminar is designed for all high school students and their parents, with an emphasis on students who have current 504 plans or IEPs. The seminar explores how learning differences are supported at the college level, including an overview of the tiers of academic and disability support offered across institutions. Families will learn how and when to communicate with colleges during the application process, how to prepare strategically for admissions, and how to identify colleges that are the best academic and personal fit. The seminar also provides guidance on navigating the application process with confidence, empowering students to make informed, self-advocating choices about their college journey. 2/28 - Maple Harvesting Day, Washington Crossing State Park, 11-2pm. Join us for a fun and educational winter tradition celebrating trees, local history, and one of nature’s sweetest gifts—maple syrup! On Saturday, February 28, 2026, we invite visitors of all ages to spend the day in the Park’s “sugar bush,” learning how maple syrup has been made in Bucks County for generations. This family-friendly, outdoor program takes place at the General Greene Pavilion and offers a unique way to experience the park during the winter season. Throughout the day, guests can enjoy hands-on demonstrations of traditional maple sugaring, from identifying maple trees and collecting sap to boiling and finishing syrup. Park educators will guide visitors through each step of the process, sharing the science and history behind maple syrup production. Visitors can also take part in daily sap collection and enjoy hot, fresh pancakes topped with the park’s own maple syrup, served from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, while supplies last.
