Kayak Blacks Creek with D&R Greenway Land Trust this summer! Join D&R Greenway Land Trust as we host kayaking tours of the beautiful Blacks Creek, a tributary of the Delaware River, from July through September. Our experienced guides will lead you along the waterway while they teach you about local ecosystems and wildlife. Groups will launch the kayaks, provided for paddlers along with safety equipment, from Bordentown Beach in Bordentown, NJ. Spots on the trip are limited and registration is required along with a $35 donation to the nonprofit land trust. Literacy New Jersey Mercer Programs Tutor Training Workshop - Give the gift of literacy! Join us as a volunteer tutor and help adults improve their English literacy skills. Work one-to-one or in small groups to teach adults learning to speak, read, and write English. Prospective volunteers attend 10 hours of online tutor training (on Zoom, 2 hours 1x a week for five weeks). After training, volunteers are matched with a small group of adult students or one-to-one and work with their program lead to plan classes and locate resources. No teaching experience is necessary. The training will give you the skills and support to become an effective tutor. We are currently offering two tutor training sessions: Tuesdays, from 6:00pm - 8:00 pm on August 13, 20, 27, September 3 & 10 OR Tuesdays, 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm on September 10, 17, 24, October 1 & 8. Book Reading and Storytelling at the Trent House Museum
The Trent House Association will host Reading & Adventure/Lectura y Aventura, a Saturday series of book reading and storytelling, arts and crafts, and outdoor games on August 3, August 10, and August 17 at the William Trent House Museum. Organized in collaboration with the Trenton Free Public Library, the series will include local children's book authors and participating children will receive a free book. The Museum is located at 15 Market Street in Trenton, across from the Hughes Justice Complex. Free parking and the museum entrance are at the rear of the property off William Trent Place. The program is free for children between the ages of 6 and 11, but space is limited with registration required at tinyurl.com/Reading-Adventure.

Arm In Arm to Hold Mobile Food Pantry at the Lawrence Headquarters Branch of the MCLS - Are you experiencing food insecurity? Arm In Arm's mobile food pantry will be at the Lawrence Headquarters Branch on Monday afternoons in August from 2:00 – 4:00 pm. No registration is required. Arm In Arm staff will register participants upon arrival. For more information about the food pantry, visit arminarm.org.

Peer Leadership and Philanthropic Giving Programs for Jewish Teens Now Enrolling for Fall 2024 - Gesher LeKesher, a Jewish peer leadership program is currently accepting applications from 11th and 12th grade teens (as of the 2024-2025 school year). As Gesher "Madrichim" (Peer Leaders), teens lead a group of 7th - 9th grade "Talmidim" (Learners) in outreaches addressing topics from a Jewish perspective including friendships, the impact of social media, peer pressure, prejudice, and antisemitism. This is a great opportunity to develop leadership skills which can be used in college and beyond while meeting and working with other Jewish teens in the Greater Princeton Mercer Bucks area. There will be music, food, inflatables and free admission to the CP pool.

8/6 - Montgomery Community Night Out, Montgomery Municipal Center, 6-8pm., Spend an August evening outdoors for Community Night Out in front of our municipal center. Montgomery Parks & Recreation is putting together an event as part of the Mayors Wellness Campaign that features live music from Dragonfly Band, touch-a-truck, and information from our police department and other community organizations. Beniamino’s Cuccina will be on-site offering food for sale. Bring the whole family and enjoy a night with neighbors learning about our township. 8/30 - Celebration Honoring Black Yankees, Negro League Baseball 5:45pm., Stoutsburg Sourland African American Museum (SSAAM) is proud to announce its 2nd annual partnership with the Somerset Patriots for a fundraising event honoring the legacy of the New York Black Yankees and the Negro Leagues. This event will occur at TD Bank Ballpark on Friday, August 30th, featuring a special game between the Somerset Patriots (NYY) and the Reading Fightin' Phils (PHI).
