Arm In Arm Mobile Food Pantry at Lawrence Library in June
Are you experiencing food insecurity? Arm In Arm's mobile food pantry will be at the Lawrence Headquarters Branch on Monday afternoons in June from 2:00 – 4:00 pm. No registration is required. Arm In Arm staff will register participants upon arrival. For more information about the food pantry, visit arminarm.org. Sourland Conservancy Wants To Plant Trees On Your Property
Would you like to attract more butterflies and birds to your backyard? Have you been thinking about planting more native trees and shrubs? Have you lost a favorite tree due to insects or storms? Is your property (of any size) located within the Sourland Mountain Region of Central New Jersey? The Sourland Conservancy may be able to help! The Sourland Conservancy is looking for 25 more Sourland Region residents who would like to have our staff plant native trees and shrubs on their property. All trees and shrubs will be protected with white plastic tree tubes. Residents must agree to maintain the trees and remove the tubes once the trees outgrow them.
If you are interested, please email your address to Sourland Conservancy's Stewardship Director, Rob Aluck, at stewards@sourland.org to see if your property is located within the USFS Priority Area. Please use the subject line: USFS planting inquiry.

Art All Night Trenton Seeks Volunteers - Art All Night Trenton, the city’s premier 24-hour annual community arts event and fundraiser presented by Artworks Trenton, is seeking dedicated volunteers to help bring this year’s celebration of creativity to life. Scheduled for June 29-30, 2024, the event will transform its new home – the War Memorial Theatre on Memorial Drive in downtown Trenton, New Jersey – into a vibrant hub of artistic expression, featuring local artists, live music, interactive workshops, and more. Opportunities are available for individuals of all ages and skill levels, from helping with set-up and tear-down to assisting artists and performers, managing crowds, facilitating workshops, and providing information to attendees. www.artallnighttrenton.org/volunteer

Deer Management Survey - Participate in the Deer Management Survey to contribute to a Princeton University research project examining local white-tailed deer behavior and impact on the environment. Through direct feedback from Princeton residents, researchers hope to clarify concerns regarding the deer population within Princeton. Their findings will be shared with the Municipality to improve its deer management strategy. Active from May through August, the survey requires approximately 10-15 minutes to finish, and participants' identifiable information will not be recorded.

6/7 – Kayak Nature Tour, Mercer County Park Marina, 9-12pm. Enjoy a morning of paddling & exploration during a naturalist-led kayak tour. Encounter basking turtles, feeding songbirds and even carnivorous plants. Life vest, binoculars, and kayak rental fee included. Basic kayak instruction provided. Registration required. 6/7 – Farm Fun Day @Cherry Grove Farm, 2-5pm., Visit our calves and cows, go for a hayride, a wild plant walk and then relax for the weekend with some gentle yoga. We'll have food, drink and arts vendors. The Gorgeous Goat will have a selection of soaps, lotions, goat cheese, yogurt and milk. The Shepherd's Pasture will have plants and jams for sale. Ironbound Cider will be offering samples of a variety of their hard ciders. Basia will be demonstrating the art of Pysanky egg decorating and Jessie Krause will be showing and selling a sampling of her paintings, drawings and cards. As you stroll around town during the annual town wide yard sale, be sure to check out the library's sale items: books, and delicious homemade treats, including an assortment of gluten-free items. We will also be selling half price HPL bags ($5), and Hopeopoly games ($20). All proceeds from the sale will go to support programming at the Hopewell Public Library.

6/8 – Worldwide Public Knit Day, Princeton Shopping Center, 11-3pm., World Wide Knit in Public Day is a day to gather to celebrate the love of knitting. This year, join the library for an informal event where knitting and crochet enthusiasts will find camaraderie in their craft and connect with local makers. There will be a yarn swap, perfect for cleaning out your stash, and free patterns available. Presented in partnership with Princeton Makes and the Center for Modern Aging Princeton. 6/14 – Concert, Central Jersey Choral Society, 7:30pm., Central Jersey Choral Society, one of the oldest arts organizations in the area, will present a concert at Our Lady of Good Counsel Roman Catholic Church, 137 West Upper Ferry Road, Ewing NJ. 6/15 – Genealogy Workshop, HCHSm 10-2pm., Join the Hunterdon County Historical Society at its Hiram E. Deats Library when professional genealogist Betty DeSapio will teach you how to find and interpret the vast resources available to help you discover your family genealogy. Participants will learn how to set goals, discover online and archival resources, how to understand core research sources (including land and tax records, probate records and military records), conduct oral histories and get the hands-on help needed to begin their genealogical journey. All participants will take home a folder full of state and local genealogy information to help further their research. This workshop is geared toward the beginner to advanced beginner. Cost is $15 for HCHS HCHS members, $25 for non-members. It includes a break for lunch and participants are invited to bring a bagged lunch or visit a local restaurant. 6/16 – History Talk – D&R Canal, 2pm., Canal and railroad historian Bill McKelvey will present an illustrated program on the historic Delaware & Raritan Canal. Mr. McKelvey is the author of “The Delaware & Raritan Canal: A Pictorial History,” a photographic treasure trove of historic views of the canal. The presentation, free and open to the public, will be held at Griggstown Reformed Church’s Fellowship Hall, located behind the church building, 1075 Canal Road, Griggstown. Light refreshments will be served.

6/18 - Build a Rain Barrel Workshop, The Watershed Institute, 5:30pm., Offered in partnership with the NJDEP Watershed Ambassador Program. While the rainfall is plentiful now, in several months we'll be eager for additional water for our vegetable and flower gardens. Capturing and reusing rainwater for your gardens using a rain barrel is an easy way of controlling storm water and helping to reduce local flooding. In addition to building a rain barrel, attendees will be given instructions for installation, care, and appropriate uses for their rain barrel. $50 registration fee includes all construction materials. The fee is per barrel, so groups can build one barrel for $50.

6/23 – Princeton Battlefield Tour, 2:30pm, Princeton Battlefield Society. Spend a Sunday afternoon at the Princeton Battlefield State Park and learn more about the Battle of Princeton, a battle that ended the "ten crucial days" of 1776-1777. Walk in the footprints of Washington's troops and listen to exciting narratives of soldier and civilian experiences. Your tour is led by an approved Historical Interpreter. Following the approximately one hour tour, visit the historic Thomas Clarke House, the home of a Quaker farming family and the only remaining structure from the January 3, 1777 Battle of Princeton. 6/29 – Ice Cream Party, Howell Farm, 10-4pm., Farmer Jim and his crew will use a "hit and miss" engine to churn gallons of ice cream in the shade of a maple tree...while live music by the Jugtown Mountain String Band, kids' games, and a sailboat craft add to the fun on the front lawn. 6/30 – 3rd Annual Find Waldo Local Scavenger Hunt, jaZams, 10am., The master of hide-and-seek returns to Princeton Small Businesses for the 3rd annual "Find Waldo Local", sponsored by jaZams and Candlewick Press. Kids and adults can both join in on the downtown fun. And it's free to play! Visit 24 shops in Princeton, which include the library, shops you love already and shops for you to discover. June 30th – July 31. Visit jaZams on June 30th during our kickoff event or any day in July to start a stamp card. Collect a stamp at each of the 24 businesses and return your card to jaZams by 6pm on July 31st for prizes and to be entered into a raffle for several Grand Prizes! There is a prize for 10+ stamps too, so you can do a mini-search for a mini-prize! This fun game is also a great way to support our local independently owned small businesses in our town! Share photos of your search using #FindWaldoLocal and tag @jazamstoys and you'll be entered to win weekly gift cards! Winners will be pulled each Sunday in July.

6/30 – Firefly Festival @Terhune’s, 4-9pm., Fireflies are an “electrifying” part of summer. To celebrate this exciting FREE event, enjoy an evening of nature, music, good food and outdoor fun.
