Capitol Debate Summer Camps teach the fundamentals of public speaking and argumentation, enabling kids to develop core presentation and debating skills that boost confidence and self-esteem. Our debate camps teach students to structure arguments, prepare debate cases, research evidence, write rebuttal briefs, deliver speeches and refute opponent arguments. Capitol Debate's goal is to enrich the social, intellectual, and academic lives of our students through the art of communication. Trenton City Museum Announces Juror and Call for Artists
Trenton City Museum announces Reginald M. Browne, Vice-Chair of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and Chairman of the Creative Capital Foundation, as Juror for the 40th Ellarslie Open. Artists from greater Trenton and beyond may enter artwork online from April 1 to May 11 for consideration in the show, which runs from June 24 through September 30. Artists may submit up to four works online for consideration in Ellarslie Open 40. The prospectus, timeline, and entry link (the Call for Art goes live April 1) are at ellarslie.org/EO40/. The top honor, Best In Show Overall, comes with an award of $1000. Top prizes will also be given in each of five categories (painting; works on paper; sculpture; photography; digital art) and through special sponsorships.

Kingston Greenways Association Earth Day Cleanup Sessions April 22 - Celebrate Earth Day with us by tidying up our shared roadsides, neighborhoods, and public lands! Morning session: 9 to 11 AM: Cleanup of Laurel Avenue and vicinity of Rockingham Historic Site, from just above the village of Kingston up to Route 518. Meet at the Rockingham parking lot, 84 Laurel Avenue. Afternoon session: 2 to 4 PM: Trash collection in the Mapleton Preserve, Cook Natural Area, and in areas adjacent to Mapleton Road, Division Street, Heathcote Road, Ridge Road, Greenwood Avenue, and Railroad Avenue. Adult Summer Rowing Opportunities @Princeton National Rowing Association Our Learn to Row program will be offered again this summer. The program will meet three times a week on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 5:45 to 7:15 pm starting June 20 through August 10 We will also be offering the adult barge class this summer. This is a low-key, fun way to get out on the water and enjoy beautiful scenery. Class size is limited to 8 people. Summer Youth Employment Program Applications Open - The Human Services department is opening up the application process for the annual Summer Youth Employment Program. This program has been a gateway for youth into the adult world of work and has provided numerous working opportunities to youth in Princeton. In the summer of 2022, SYEP provided jobs to nearly 30 students in municipal departments and local non-profit organizations which included job readiness training, financial coaching, and career development. Participants must live in Princeton, must be between the ages of 14 -18 as of July 5th, 2023, and their family income must not exceed 400% of the 2022 US federal poverty level. Participants work 25 hours a week and earn minimum wage ($12.93/hr.) for 8 weeks during the summer. Applications are available at the Princeton Human Services office in Monument Hall. 4/6 – Film Screening – “The Price of Silence: The Forgotten History of New Jersey’s Enslaved People”, 7pm., Princeton Garden Theatre - YWCA Princeton will host a free screening of The Price of Silence: The Forgotten History of New Jersey's Enslaved People on April 6th at the Princeton Garden Theatre. Produced by Truehart Productions, the documentary explores the Garden State's history of slavery and its lasting ramifications. A Q&A featuring the cast, including local historians, the director, and interviewees of the documentary will follow the screening, and will be moderated by Dr. Joy Barnes-Johnson. 4/7 – Opening Reception, “Trenton Makes”, Old Barracks Museum, 6-9pm., This reception marks the opening night of a month-long exhibit which features Trenton artists and Trenton art. This exhibit consists of fifteen works from talented local artists Chee Bravo, Marge Miccio, and Jim Doherty. Come meet the artists themselves and discuss their works while enjoying light refreshments and soaking in a sampling of the city's creativity and inspiration. This event is free and open to public. 4/12 - Alternative Paths to College with Blake Boles, 7-8pm., Princeton Learning Cooperative. As self-directed learners, we face two interesting questions at the same time: How to prepare for college admissions as a non-traditional applicant, and whether higher education is even necessary. In this 45-minute presentation, Blake Boles will share stories, principles, and research related to these tricky questions, followed by an open Q&A to dive into more specific questions and concerns.This is an online event via Zoom. 4/14 – Milou Gallery Grand Opening/Benefit for Fisherman’s Mark, 6-10pm., Washington Crossing, PA-based American Pop Artist Perry Milou, known for his iconic portraits of freedom fighters and famous subjects, including Pope Francis, Cassius Clay and Frida Kahlo, is opening an expansive new gallery in Lambertville, NJ. The 2,600 square-foot Milou Gallery, located at 201 S. Main Street in the RiverWalk Complex, will feature Milou's work as well as four other well-known artists: John Stango, Stacy Roberts, Denise Fike, and Emily Taylor Rogers. 100 percent of proceeds from a silent auction during the gallery's grand opening, which will take place on Friday, April 14th from 6 to 10 p.m., will benefit Lambertville's long-time local food pantry and social services agency, Fisherman's Mark.

4/15 – 17th Annual Watershed Stream Clean Ups, 9-11am., Register now and volunteer for the 17th Annual Watershed Stream Cleanups on April 15th and 22nd and help clean up a stream in your neighborhood! The Watershed's Stream Cleanups are a volunteer opportunity for youth and adults that help make our watersheds healthier, protect our environment and beautify our communities. Over the years, thousands of volunteers have removed over 71 tons (141,000 pounds) of trash from our streams. There are 15 cleanups on the schedule located throughout Central New Jersey. 4/23 – Building Princeton (with LEGOS), Historical Society of Princeton, 3-5pm., Visualize the town and campus as you've never seen them before! Working from photographs, teams recreate iconic Princeton structures out of LEGO building blocks. Choose among more than 50 historic structures, famous residences, community buildings, and houses of worship to construct a scale model. When complete, models are placed on a 30-foot map of Princeton, providing an amazing aerial view. Fun for all ages, Building Princeton is designed to increase awareness of the town’s rich architectural heritage. Teams can include up to 4 people, with at least one adult per group. Led by architect Stephen W. Schwartz from Building Blocks Workshops, LLC, this event is featured in other cities, including Montclair, Morristown, and Summit.

4/23 - Adath Israel’s 100th Anniversary Celebration Concert with Six 13 A Cappella, 2pm., The Six 13 a Cappella singers will perform at Adath Israel Congregation of Lawrenceville, NJ, in celebration of the congregation’s 100th Anniversary. Six 13 is a groundbreaking, critically acclaimed six-man a cappella vocal band.
