Vaccine Video Contest - ‘Your Voice, Your Shot’ - Gov. Phil Murphy this week announced the “Your Voice, Your Shot” video contest, which urges New Jersey residents to share why they and others are getting vaccinated. The contest calls for compelling, creative and captivating video. After the submission window closes, a select number of finalists will be chosen. The Historical Society of Princeton (HSP) is pleased to present its first ever Virtual House Tour from May 15 through June 15, 2021. This signature event will feature on-demand, multimedia content of unprecedented depth for participants to navigate at their leisure throughout the entire month. A new house will be released each week during the month when the Tour is live, starting on May 15. Once released, houses will remain available through June 15. The Art of Wine Tasting with Kevin Zraly May 22 - A Benefit for The Arts Council of Princeton - Join ACP for an evening of entertainment with Kevin Zraly who’s been called “the most charismatic wine educator in the world,” as he leads us through his famous “One Hour Wine Expert” course. He’s the recipient of a James Beard Lifetime Achievement Award, and his Windows on the World Complete Wine Course is the world’s best-selling wine guide for a reason. Kevin’s accessible approach emphasizes personal preference, enjoyment, and knowledge. Receive four bottles of wine selected by Kevin and a curated cheese and charcuterie board from Olsson’s Fine Foods of Princeton. We’ll end the evening with live music.This virtual event is a special fundraiser to support our Outreach Programs serving seniors in community housing, low-income students, and homeless youth. 5/7 - From Folklore to Fantasy: A Conversation with Roshani Chokshi and Sayantani DasGupta, 6pm. A conversation with acclaimed YA fantasy-adventure authors Roshani Chokshi and Sayantani DasGupta, co-hosted by the Princeton University Hindu Life Program; The Cotsen Children's Library, Princeton University; The Princeton Public Library; Labyrinth Books; and JaZams. 5/7 – Healing Voices: Caregiver Stories, McCarter Theatre, 7pm., New Jersey professional and family caregivers, as well as patients receiving care, were asked to submit creative prose, poetry, and theatrical pieces that reflect the theme of caregiving or the personal healing experience. Over 100 writers submitted pieces to the project for consideration. The 16 pieces selected by McCarter were then woven together by a professional director into an evening of virtual readings celebrating, exploring, and bearing witness to the caregiving experience. A virtual reading of the writers’ work by professional actors will take place via a Zoom webinar. 5/8 – Locust Hill Cemetery Clean Up, 9-12pm., Established about 1850, Locust Hill is Trenton's largest existing African-American cemetery. It holds the remains of residents re-interred there from the East Hanover Street Burial Ground, dating back to 1779, as well as a number of Civil War veterans. Please join us at the Cemetery, 73 Hart Ave., Trenton 08638 on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at 9 a.m. to begin the next phase of the restoration project. Volunteers are needed to clear areas believed to contain gravesites so that ground penetrating radar can be utilized. We will continue to transform the area into a greenway first designed for the City by the Olmstead firm in the early 1900's, now to be implemented as part of the Locust Hill Cemetery revitalization. 5/13 – Struggling for the Soul of Public Education, Princeton Public Library, 6pm., Elise Boddie, law professor at Rutgers University, discusses the challenges of integration in the North and why school segregation is a threat to public education and to our democracy. 5/13 – Virtual Living History: Theodore Roosevelt, Pennington Public Library, 7pm., Living History Actor: Peyton Dixon, American Historical Theatre, a nonprofit organization specializing in first-person living history presentations. When President McKinley was assassinated in 1901, Vice President Theodore Roosevelt bounded into Washington, D.C. as the youngest President in American history. Bringing his vigorous persona (and his boisterous family) to the White House, "TR" helped catapult the U.S. into a new century. 5/15 Youth Fishing Programs, Mercer Parks, 9-11am., Join us for a morning of fishing at one of our ‘fishing holes.’ Designed for beginners, we’ll provide the instruction and the equipment. 5/15 –Zaire, Palmer Square Spring Concert Series, 12-2pm., Zaire was founded in 1981 as a 3-piece acoustic trio playing classic rock with an emphasis on strong 3-part harmonies. They can be found playing as a 3-piece acoustic trio and 4-piece full band covering artists such as The Eagles, Tom Petty, Radiohead and more.

5/16 - Swingin' Sinatra Beachside Lunch Event, The Columns, Avon-By-The-Sea, NJ, 11-2pm., Celebrating and Remembering Frank Sinatra! Swingin' afternoon of Sinatra Style Live Music, tasty Lunch and a chat by two guest speakers who are Sinatra experts! Featured Guest Speaker is Chuck Granata of Siriusly Sinatra. 5/16 - A Taste of History with Chef Walter Staib, 2pm., The Trent House Association presents a virtual presentation by Chef Walter Staib, host of the PBS series "A Taste of History” via Zoom. Registration for Trent House Association members is $10 and $15 for non-members and can be made at www.williamtrenthouse.org/upcoming-events. Chef Staib will bring history to life in his presentation on America's culinary beginnings. 5/20 – Monthly Roundtable, Women in Development, 12pm., Social Listening is a way to monitor your organization, activities, and associations throughout social media, but not exclusively focused on analytics. It is more than following a share or a hashtag. It is a strategy to learn how your organization is being discussed (or not) through your social networks. This session is a basic introduction and will answer questions like: "What is social learning?;" "Why is it important?;" and "How can we stop talking at my community and start listening to them?" 5/20 - Exploring by Bicycle: Great Family-Friendly Rides on Central Jersey Trails, MCLS, 7-8pm., Have you rediscovered your bike during the pandemic? Join co-hosts, Silvia Ascarelli, cyclist and author of the blog, Exploring by Bicycle, and Michael Gray, owner of Hopewell's Sourland Cycles, for an informative event to help get you and your family out and about on bicycling adventures. Ascarelli highlights her favorite traffic-free trails suitable for all ages and offers tips on how to find more great bike riding. 5/22 – Family Exploration on the Stony Brook Trail, The Watershed, 10-12pm., Join us on a hike to explore the Stony Brook as it winds through the Watershed Reserve. 5/22 – ArtWalk 2021, West Windsor Arts Center, 11-2pm., (Rain Date: May 23rd). Featuring a 1-mile family fun walk with art activities, family picnic, music, and more! Your registration includes art activities and completion certificate. Walk our route and pick up craft items along the way. We will keep everyone motivated and moving as they complete our 1-mile course. Return to the Arts Center to get your walk certificate, make your crafts, eat your picnic lunch under tents, and groove to the music. 5/26 – Full Moon Bike Hike, Washington Crossing State Park, 8:45pm., Take a guided night-time bicycle ride, by the light of the Flower Moon, up the Delaware & Raritan Canal Towpath toward the Lambertville wing dam (approx. 13 miles round trip). 5/29 - Haying & Hayrides, Howell Farm, Learn how to make hay the old-fashioned way, and enjoy a free hayride around the farm. Rides leave the barnyard every 20 minutes from 10:30 – 3pm., and take visitors up to the fields where farmers are cutting, tedding, and raking loose hay to store in the barn for the horses. 5/29 – Free Outdoor Concert, Capital Philharmonic of NJ, Cadwalader Park, 4pm., CPNJ presents an outdoor concert at Cadwalader Park Pavilion to honor Memorial Day on May 29 at 4 pm.
