Vaccine Distribution Information/Updates
January 19, 2021 By
Jane Hynes
Information and updates on vaccine distribution change frequently. We will try to provide you with the most up-to-date information in this newsletter. We also post updates on the town website.
On January 16th the New Jersey Department of Health issued this letter/update:
As you are well aware, New Jersey has expanded the criteria for those who are now eligible to receive the vaccine. With the amount of feedback we’ve received, we wanted to share a quick update with you on the next concrete steps to ensure our seniors and those at the highest risk are vaccinated.
With the expansion of eligibility into more categories, there are now many more people who can get vaccinated, but the vaccine supply is still very limited. There will be more vaccine with each coming week. We urge you to be patient. Currently, we have been receiving a little over 100,000 doses a week so only 100,000 people can be vaccinated each week. While people are encouraged to pre-register, there are currently many more people seeking vaccination than there are appointments available across the state. We are continuing to expand our network of dispensing sites and have set up mega sites in every region to accommodate large numbers of people at one site. That will change as supply increases and additional slots become available for people to make appointments. The NJ Vaccine Scheduling System will notify those who have registered in batches that they can now schedule appointments.
The Princeton Health Department is currently vaccinating group 1A. Clinics are not being set up for appointments until the Health Department knows how many vaccines they will have available. Mercer County is receiving a limited number of vaccines weekly which are being sent to the various vaccination sites throughout Mercer County. Due to the limited supply of vaccines, we are asking you to be patient and wait to be notified via email when you are eligible to schedule an appointment.
Princeton residents are encouraged to pre-register on the New Jersey Department of Health's COVID-19 website to determine vaccine eligibility. Once you are eligible for a vaccine you will receive an email from the NJ Department of Health. At that time you can schedule your appointment at any of the sites listed on the NJ COVID Information Hub. Additionally, in order to ensure that details about upcoming vaccine clinics are made available quickly, the Princeton Health Department has created an online waitlist where Princeton residents can provide current contact info and specify eligibility. You will receive an email with instructions on how to make an appointment when appointments are available. We ask that you please be patient and wait for the email.
