10 Festive Activities on Our Bucket List This Month

December’s calendar is filled with festivities and fun to last all month long. Here are some of our favorites:

 

Terhune Orchards

    330 Cold Soil Rd, Princeton

Terhune Orchards is hosting weekend Holiday events throughout December, including visiting Santa in the barnyard, Winery Sunday Music Series and holiday wreath making with Pam Mount.  You can also pick up local flavors of gift baskets filled with Terhune Farm apples, homemade baked goods, Terhune wine and more.

 

Palmer Square Ice Skating & Other Holiday Events

    One Palmer Square, East Princeton

Bundle up and throw on your skates in Palmer Square’s new ice skating rink while lights twinkle above. They are open Thursday-Friday 4PM-7PM and Saturday & Sunday 12-3PM and 4-7PM. Palmer Square has a variety of other holiday events including Strolling Santa and holiday music every weekend from 12-2PM, as well as Gingerbread on Display. Select dates include Holiday Jam with Princeton University, Wreath Decorating with McCarter Theatre, Breakfast with Santa, Hanukkah Celebration with Jewish Center of Princeton and Christmas Eve Caroling with the Arts Council of Princeton, to name just a few.

 

Princeton Pro Musica’s Joy to the World

    Patriots Theater at the War Memorial: 1 Memorial Drive, Trenton

On December 15th at 3PM, Princeton Pro Musica Chorus and Orchestra will present “Joy to the World: A Christmas Suite” at the grand Patriots Theater at the War Memorial in Trenton, NJ. This warm and joyous holiday concert features the “Christmas portion” of Messiah by George Frederic Handel alongside Joy to the World, our own maestro’s stirring suite of carols and holiday songs. Tickets are available only through Princeton Pro Musica at www.princetonpromusica.org, or by calling (609) 683-5122.

 

Join singers of Princeton Pro Musica and Trenton Children’s Chorus for a brief reception in the “green room” behind the stage of Patriot’s Theater in the Trenton War Memorial.  Simply walk toward the stage in the hallway on either side of the auditorium.  Singers will direct you to the brief reception featuring home-made cookies, varieties of sparkling water, and sing-along caroling accompanied by piano.

 

American Repertory Ballet’s Nutcracker

    301 N. Harrison Street, Princeton

American Repertory Ballet (ARB) brings the beloved classic Nutcracker to the stage with Tchaikovsky's magnificent score, thrilling choreography and a cast of more than 100. A holiday tradition for more than 50 years, American Repertory Ballet's Nutcracker is one of the longest, continuously running Nutcracker productions in the nation. ARB's professional company joins together with students from Princeton Ballet School to tell the story of a young girl named Clara and how a mysterious gift from her Uncle Drosselmeyer brings about enchanted dreams and fantastical scenes. Kelsey Theatre’s Scrooge, The Musical and ’Twas the Night Before Christmas

     1200 Old Trenton Road, West Windsor

Celebrate the Holidays at Kelsey Theatre starting in November with Scrooge, The Musical followed by our own holiday tradition 'Twas The Night Before Christmas... a delightful musical perfect for the whole family – even the littlest theatre goer. HOLIDAY POPS!

     Richardson Auditorium, Alexander Hall, on the campus of Princeton University

On Saturday, December 14th at 3PM & 6PM join the Princeton Symphony Orchestra, the Princeton High School Choir, and the New Jersey Tap Dance Ensemble for a seasonal celebration that's sure to delight all ages. The concert includes festive holiday melodies and a carol sing-along—a Princeton holiday tradition! Nell Flanders conducts.

Tickets: $45 and up (children 17 years and younger accompanied by an adult receive a 50% discount); Large print programs and assistive listening devices available; Additional accommodations or services (i.e. ASL, Braille Program, Audio Description etc.) can be arranged with two weeks' notice.

 

 

Morven Museum Festival of Trees & Gingerbread House Workshops

    55 Stockton Street, Princeton

Morven’s annual Festival of Trees has become a must-see Princeton holiday tradition. Visitors enjoy the museum’s elegant galleries, hallways, and porches artfully decorated for the holidays by local businesses, garden clubs, and non-profit organizations. You can also enjoy a new tradition by creating a gingerbread holiday house to take home. Constructed gingerbread house and candy decorations provided, as well as holiday background films and music; hot cocoa and cookies provided for family sessions.

 

 

Chris’ Trees

    900 Canal Road, Princeton

Chris’ Trees is a Choose & Cut Christmas Tree Farm open 9AM to dusk, weather permitting, for a memorable family experience. The farm offers Blue Spruce & Concolor Fir. They provide saws to cut your special trees and have helpers on site to assist you each weekend in December. Trees are $50 and are available in sizes ranging from table top trees to 10’ trees The farm provides saws & twine to tie smaller trees — but they suggest brining a rope for larger trees. Dogs—on a leash—are welcome. The farm accepts cash or checks.

 

Cookies with Santa, Princeton Shopping Center

    301 North Harrison Street, Princeton

The Princeton Shopping Center will host its annual Cookies with Santa Event on Saturday, December 7 from 12-2PM. This family-friendly event includes cookie decorating courtesy of LiLLiPiES, holiday craft station, photo ops with Santa, holiday selfie station, live performances from Princeton High School's a capella groups, holiday treats, and enter a raffle to win four tickets to A Christmas Carol at McCarter Theatre Center.

 

Attendees are asked to meet in front of Marlowe's Jewelry at 12 noon sharp to greet Santa's fire truck and then parade with Santa for a sing-a-long through the shopping center spreading holiday cheer.

 

The parade will end at Santa's pop-up shop in the courtyard between Surf Taco and Orvis for the event activities. Attendees have the option of bringing an unwrapped toy to be donated to HomeFront. Cookies with Santa is free and open to everyone, and is rain or shine. This is a popular event -- please pre-register via Eventbrite.com (search "Cookies with Santa in Princeton") to help plan for attendance.

 

Princeton Shopping Center is located at 301 North Harrison Street, Princeton, New Jersey. Parking is free.

 

Christmas Carol Read Aloud at the Princeton Library

    65 Witherspoon Street, Princeton

 

Usher in the spirit of the season and the return of McCarter Theatre Center’s production of the beloved holiday tale by participating in the fourth annual public community reading of Dickens’ 1843 novella will take place Saturday December 7, 2019 at 2PM.

 

This is a wonderful opportunity to experience the beloved Victorian masterpiece which Dickens wrote to be read aloud. We will read the entire story from start to finish by the first floor fireplace. All are invited and encouraged to attend — individuals, families, book clubs and groups — and to participate by reading a portion of the book. All reading levels are welcome. Readers are requested to arrive at the library at least 10 minutes prior to the start of their time slot and to remain for the full 30 minutes for which they signed up. There will be three to five readers per slot and each will read for seven to 10 minutes. Festive attire encouraged but not required.
