Volunteers from around Mercer and Bucks counties will join together on Sunday, December 6, 2009 to make phone calls, raise funds, and donate time to support people in need during United Jewish Federation of Princeton Mercer Bucks’ annual Super Sunday.
The Super Sunday planning committee, spearheaded by Mark Merkovitz of Princeton Junction and Vice President for Campaign, Stephanie Will of Skillman and Women’s Campaign Chair, and Emily Josephson of West Windsor and Vice President for Community Relations and Allocations, have designed a day of giving that includes various ways to help make a difference. In addition to working the phones, volunteers can wrap gifts for L.I.G.H.T.S., a Hanukah program run through Jewish Family and Children’s Service that provides donated gifts for children in need. Volunteers can also participate in training sessions, assist with outreach activities, learn about the community, and more. A special session for teens to learn more about philanthropy and participate in raising funds is planned from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm. The Jewish Community Center of Princeton Mercer Bucks will also be providing children’s programming in the morning.
Monies that are raised during Super Sunday help people in need, respond to crisis, and foster identity and community. Funds support social service programs such as assistance for the elderly and children at risk, food and emergency cash assistance, chaplaincy visits to assisted living facilities, counseling for those who have been affected by trauma, job loss, death, or divorce, day school and summer camp scholarships, after-school educational programs, and many more. For a list of beneficiary programs and agencies, visit www.ujfpmb.org.
The day’s program will be held at Bank of America (formerly Merrill Lynch) Hopewell Campus, 410 Scotch Road, Building 1350 in Pennington, NJ from 9:00 am to Noon, and then again from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm (afternoon includes teen session).
