President's Message
Dear Members and Friends:

Central Jersey Network of Black Women ushered in spring with its 21st Anniversary Program on April 21st at 5th Ave. Bistro in Hightstown.  An outstanding couple,  Albert and Brenda Werner, were honored by CJNBW.  Many local politicians, police, other civic and business leaders, and family and friends came out and paid tribute to this deserving couple.  The honorees received many proclamations and presentations in recognition of their contributions to the community over many years.

For those of you who could not attend, please see details of biographies of Brenda and Albert Werner in the  program which is posted on the web page.  I promise, like the attendees, you will be impressed!

Thanks to all of you who attended the function and helped to make the event a smashing success.  A huge thanks to Linda Moton Rivers, who worked very hard to contact many of the people that work with the Werners in various organizations in the community.  Also, thanks to the other members who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to organize and advertise this function, especially  Liston and Joyce Abbott.  We thank Liston for the Program booklet.

For our June meeting, special plans are being made for a relaxing night.  Ladies, come join us for a massage,  facial and have nails done.

Sincerely,

Ruth Rainford Timins

Steering Committee Corner

This Committee is made up of the officers of the Network.  We meet on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at the Twin Rivers Library, 276 Abbington Dr., E. Windsor, NJ.,  (609-443-1880).  Any member can attend these meetings, if so desired.

The Steering  Committee met on Tues., May 7 at the Twin Rivers Library.  In attendance, Ruth, Shirley, Illean, Beverly,  Linda and Joyce.

The main discussion centered around our celebration on April 21 at "Fifth Ave. Bistro"  in Hightstown, which was well attended and quite successful.  A full report will be ready for our May meeting and Shirley Vassall is working hard on getting this together as mail is still coming in.

We also discussed how new/prospective members should be greeted or contacted.  The Membership Committee, (Linda, Marcia and Joyce) will talk about this and come up with ideas and bring to the meeting.

There was some discussion about awarding one scholarship to a high school student  in addition to the two scholarships we plan to award to two females returning to school.  Presently, it appears that we won't be able to award a high school scholarship until next year as it is to late in the school year to get this done on time.

Noreen reported that contact has been made with several colleges regarding our scholarships for women.

JUNE MEETING
We are planning a fun and relaxing evening for our last meeting of the year.  We are calling it a "SPA NIGHT" - of facials, manicures and possible chair massages.  A Mary Kay Rep and 2 assistants will be present to provide FREE services.  The products will be available for sale if anyone wishes to make a purchase.  Further details will follow.

SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE
(Noreen Lois Duncan, Beverly Hobbs and Regina Quince) - This committee  should be prepared to up-date the Steering Committee on their progress regarding the next awardees for scholarships.

TIPS
Uses for Salt:
1.  Too many suds in dish water?  Sprinkle a little salt over the top of the water and suds will subside.
2.  Sprinkle salt over your cutting board and then scrub with a warm cloth.  This should get rid of stains and small scratches.
3.  Pour some salt on a grease spill and you'll be able to wipe it up a lot easier.

BIRTHDAYS
If your birthday has been overlooked,  contact Joyce Abbott  (448-4511).

 May    11 Ondina Jeffers
