President's Message
Dear Members and Friends:

As we approach the end of the 2002 membership year, let us reflect on the network's accomplishments and plan for the next year.

Like the rest of America, CJNBW was stunned by the terrorist acts and mourned the
loss of lives in September 2001. But also like the rest of Americans, the members pulled closer together and worked as a team to accomplish the Network's goals.

A scholarship was awarded to Ms. Miranda Roach at our Open House in October. Ms CarineToussaint-Ramos was the speaker at the Open House and she presented her diaries on 10 countries visited on her Voyage at Sea.

We celebrated the holidays with a tea at Ms. Noreen Duncan's home, and the attendees donated gifts to Crisis Ministry.

In honor of Black History month, Ms. Toussaint-Ramous returned and spoke on Kenya.

Representatives of CJNBW were invited to Merrill Lynch and spoke about the Network's mission and activities.

Two speakers from Capital Health Systems, Dr. S. Williamson and Ms. Marsha Rudolph, spoke on Womens Health Issues in Cancer, and Stress Reduction, respectively.

CJNBW celebrated its 21st anniversary with a benefit and presented an award to Couple of the Year, Brenda and Albert Werner.

In addition, the members supported each other through various illnesses and deaths. Everyone rallied around one of the founding members, Gloria Daniels and supported her family during her illness and death.

Our final meeting for 2002 membership year will be June 11th and I look forward to seeing you all.

Have a very happy summer!

Sincerely,

Ruth Rainford Timins

Steering Committee Corner

This Committee is made up of the officers of the Network.  We meet on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at the Twin Rivers Library, 276 Abbington Dr., E. Windsor, NJ.,  (609-443-1880).  Any member can attend these meetings, if so desired.

The Steering  Committee met on Tues., May 7 at the Twin Rivers Library.  In attendance, Ruth, Shirley, Illean, Beverly,  Linda and Joyce.

The main discussion centered around our celebration on April 21 at "Fifth Ave. Bistro"  in Hightstown, which was well attended and quite successful.  A full report will be ready for our May meeting and Shirley Vassall is working hard on getting this together as mail is still coming in.

We also discussed how new/prospective members should be greeted or contacted.  The Membership Committee, (Linda, Marcia and Joyce) will talk about this and come up with ideas and bring to the meeting.

There was some discussion about awarding one scholarship to a high school student  in addition to the two scholarships we plan to award to two females returning to school.  Presently, it appears that we won't be able to award a high school scholarship until next year as it is to late in the school year to get this done on time.

Noreen reported that contact has been made with several colleges regarding our scholarships for women.

BLOOD & BONE MARROW DRIVE

At the May 14 meeting, Beverly Hobbs suggested that we look into starting a blood/bone marrow drive for African Americans.  Please keep this in mind for further discussion.

SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE
(Noreen Lois Duncan, Beverly Hobbs and Regina Quince) - This committee  should be prepared to up-date the Steering Committee on their progress regarding the next awardees for scholarships.

WE WISH EVERYONE A SAFE AND HAPPY SUMMER.

BEST WISHES & CONTINUED Good Health TO:    Arlene Banks, Louise Smith, Ruth Timins daughter, Nicole and; the mothers of Marcia Duhart, Lorna Jones, Louise Smith, Ruth Timins and Shirley Vassall's  mother-in-law.

GET WELL:   Louise Smith is doing quite well and feeling better and stronger each day.  We do wish her continued good health.

Jessica Ransom has been at home recovering from foot surgery.  She is still experiencing some pain and a phone call will help to cheer her up.  Call Joyce for Jessica's phone number if you don't have it.  Take care, Jessica.

It is our intention to remember all who are ill, lost a loved one or congratulate members and their families when achievements are made.  However, you must let Joyce Abbott (448-4511 ) know so mention can be made in the Newsletter.

TIPS
Uses for Salt:
1.  Too many suds in dish water?  Sprinkle a little salt over the top of the water and suds will subside.
2.  Sprinkle salt over your cutting board and then scrub with a warm cloth.  This should get rid of stains and small scratches.
3.  Pour some salt on a grease spill and you'll be able to wipe it up a lot easier.
