Community Invited to Bike, Run, Walk, or Roll 100 Miles on the LHT from June 6 – September 7

The Lawrence Hopewell Trail (LHT) is inviting the community to get outside, get moving, and explore the trail this summer with the launch of the LHT 100-Mile Challenge, running from June 6 through September 7, 2026. The challenge kicks off on June 6 in celebration of National Trails Day, a nationwide celebration of the trails that connect our communities across the country.

The challenge is simple: complete 100 miles on the Lawrence Hopewell Trail over the course of the summer. Participants can bike, run, walk, or roll their way to the finish line. All movement counts! Log miles throughout the summer at lhtrail.org/100-mile-challenge. The more you check in, the more the whole community can celebrate the progress we're making together.

“There’s no single way to complete the challenge,” said Doug Caum, Program Manager at the Lawrence Hopewell Trail. “Some days may be about fitness, while others may simply be about getting outside, exploring the trail, and enjoying time with friends and family. We want people to experience the trail in whatever way feels meaningful to them.”

LHT Board Chair David Sandahl hopes the challenge will encourage even more people to experience everything the trail has to offer.

“The Lawrence Hopewell Trail is one of our community’s greatest shared resources,” said Sandahl. “It brings people together, connects our towns and open spaces, and gives everyone a chance to enjoy the outdoors right here in our own backyard. We hope this challenge inspires people of all ages to get out on the trail this summer, show their LHT spirit, and discover just how special the trail is for our community. I can’t wait to see everyone out there.”

Participants may complete their miles however they choose, as long as all miles take place on the Lawrence Hopewell Trail between June 6 and September 7. Participants will track their progress and submit mileage reports through an online form available on the LHT website. Participants are encouraged to log their miles regularly throughout the summer — not just at the finish line. The LHT will keep track of individual progress and use reported mileage to gauge participation, share community updates, and celebrate milestones along the way.

Those who complete all 100 miles by September 7 will receive:
• A limited-edition commemorative sticker
• One registration to the LHT Full Moon Bike Ride on Saturday, September 26, 2026

Participants are encouraged to share their progress, photos, and favorite trail moments on social media throughout the summer to show their “LHT Spirit” and inspire others to join the challenge. Participants should tag @lhtrail and use the hashtag #LHT100MileChallenge when posting about their experience on the trail.

LHT apparel and gear are also available through the LHT online shop at lhtrail.org/shop
