The Hunterdon County Historical Society's walking tour of this historic cemetery will feature Revolutionary War soldiers such as Daniel Bray, known for having "brought the boats to Washington," and the lesser known Daniel Ent, whose desperate poverty in his post-war years is heartbreaking. You'll hear the stories of a Civil War veteran; two master mechanics (including one who built a car that ran on coal or wood); the county's first historian; a handwriting expert at the kidnapping trial of Charles Lindbergh's baby; a flapper; a beloved Hunterdon Central teacher who is remembered at every home football game; a soap opera star; a highly-regarded sampler maker; and a founding member of a popular R&B, soul and funk band. You'll also get a bonus life lesson or two, like how to not pack when you're moving to a new home.
The tour, led by HCHS Executive Director Dave Harding, is free for Hunterdon County Historical Society members and $10 for nonmembers. (You can become a member at www.hunterdonhistory.org, and get all the perks that membership offers including free use of our Hiram Deats Library to research, our newsletter and more.) To register for the tour, email hunterdonhistoryadm@gmail.com. Please pay cash or check on the day of the event if you are not a member. The Rosemont Cemetery is located at 100 Kingwood-Stockton Road in Rosemont.
