Fashion, Feminism, and Fear: Clothing and Power in the 19th Century

Public opening with curators on hand for exhibit featuring late 19th and early 20th century cartoons satirizing women’s fashion at a time when the "New Woman" began to wear pants, tailored jackets, and sportswear and enter traditionally masculine spheres. On view through April 2026.

Author Michael Gordin, professor of history and Dean of the College at Princeton University, discusses his book “On the Fringe: When Science Meets Pseudoscience,” Tuesday, Sept. 16, at 7 p.m., at Princeton Public Library. Prof. Corina Tarnita of the university’s Ecology and Evolutionary Biology department will join Gordin in conversation during the event.
