At Not in Our Town (NIOT) Princeton’s October 6, 2025 (7:30 pm) Continuing Conversation on Race and White Privilege, entitled “Trenton Makes, the State Takes,” Caroline Clarke, Trenton resident, civil rights lawyer, and NIOT’s chair will talk about the struggle for control of Trenton’s Water Works. The proposal to create a regional public utility would mean loss of community control over an important municipal asset. Clarke will explain how this effort is another example of the transfer of wealth from a Black city to whiter, wealthier suburbs, a contributing factor to the growing racial wealth gap in New Jersey as well as in the United States as a whole.
