Documentary filmmaker Purcell Carson presents excerpts from her film on Trenton teenager Harlan Joseph, who was killed by police in the aftermath of Dr. King's assassination, followed by a discussion. Hopewell Gives Back: MLK Day of Service, Hopewell Presbyterian Church, 80 West Broad Street, Hopewell, NJ. Volunteers of all ages will help 7 local nonprofits: baking, making fleece blankets, seed bombs and more! Donations of canned food, recital costumes, and winter coats are greatly appreciated. West Windsor Human Relations Council is partnering with the West Windsor Arts Council to hold A DAY OF SERVICE - joining forces to help those in our communities we are asking for donated items for three community groups. The three Not for Profit Service Partners are: 1. Send Hunger Packing West Windsor-Plainsboro a program of Mercer Street Friends; 2. RISE Community Services; 3. Ryan’s Case for Smiles.
The Day of Service will feature speakers, a book reading, projects including putting together bags for use in the SHuP WW-P program, making pillowcase bags for Ryan’s Case for Smiles and other entertainment. Youth Orchestra of Central Jersey Winter Concert - Featuring Philadelphia Orchestra Concertmaster David Kim, Kendall Main Stage, TCNJ, 2000 Pennington Road, Pennington. Philadelphia Orchestra Concertmaster David Kim will perform Violin Concerto No. 1 in G Minor by Max Bruch with the Youth Orchestra of Central Jersey. Kim's performance is the featured event of the annual YOCJ winter concerts, to be held at Kendall Hall, The College of New Jersey. The afternoon concert will also include YOCJ's Saxophone Choir, which will perform Gran Partita, commissioned by YOCJ and written by noted composer David Noon.
A later concert, at 7:30 p.m., will include the String Preparatory Orchestra, Pro Arte Orchestra, and Wind Symphony. All tickets are good for both concerts. (The snow date for the earlier concert, featuring David Kim, will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 22, at West Windsor-Plainsboro High School South. The snow date for the later concert will be 3 p.m. Sunday, January 27, also at West Windsor-Plainsboro High School South.) Tickets will be available starting on January 4 at tcnj.edu/boxoffice or the Kendall Hall box office on the day of the concert.

Cross Country Ski Workshop, Nature Center at Washington Crossing State Park, 355 Washington Crossing Pennington Rd, Titusville. In this workshop for pre-teens and adults, the participants will learn about the different types of cross-country ski equipment that are available and what to look for in selecting your first pair of skis. Other topics will include: how to dress and where to go skiing in New Jersey. The indoor lesson will last 1 -1 ½ hour. If the ground is snow covered, an additional 1+ hour outdoor ski lesson will be offered. Participants will have to provide their own ski equipment for the outdoor lesson.
