Brunch brings things like delicious mimosas and scrumptious bloody marys, alongside favorite breakfast staples and syrups and over easy eggs. If you are looking to make your weekend easy like a Sunday Morning, be sure to check out the list of the region’s booziest brunches.
The Spots:
Peacock Inn
20 Bayard Lane, Princeton
The Peacock Inn is a Colonial-style 18th century mansion-turned-boutique hotel that features a chic bar and fine dining. You can enjoy brunch every day of the week (weekdays from 7A-4P and weekends 8A-4P). Champagne cocktails include a Classic Bellini, French 75 (with gin, lemon and cremant), Raspberry Mimosa, Sanguinello (with Lillet, blood orange, process and aromatic bitters) and a Strawberry Lemonade Mojito.
The brunch menu features crepes, smoked fish, eggs benedict, crab benedict, steak and eggs, as well as a variety of omelets, like a Lobster Omelet, Mushroom & Gruyere Omelet and Fine Herbes Omelet. During brunch you can also enjoy a variety of appetizers and entrees (Lamb Burger, Crab Louis, Lobster Roll to name a few).
The Peacock Inn also offers afternoon tea from 2PM to 4PM where guests devour savories, scones, sweets & caviar... and there's even a special menu for the little ones. A delicious champagne flight is on the afternoon tea menu. Reservations for tea are required 24-hours in advance.
Mediterra Restaurant & Bar
29 Hulfish Street, Princeton
Mediterra Restaurant & Bar is a busy spot for Mediterranean food in a rustic setting. They feature an extensive wine list and outside patio.
Mediterra offers a variety of cocktails on their brunch menu, like a bellini, Mediterra bloody, as well as El Jefe with tequila, malabar, longhorn pepper agave, lemon and coriander and I Dream of Greenie, with gin, juiced cucumber & snap pea basil syrup and fever tree tonic.
There are soup and salads on the menu, as well as breakfast favorites like Mediterra’s Lemon Ricotta Pancakes with peach compote and maple syrup, Poached Farm Eggs with double smoked ham, grilled vegetable escalivada, fried flatbread and sofrito hollandaise, and Three Egg Frittata with zucchini squash, heirloom tomatoes and zucchini blossom.
There are also appetizers to share, including oysters, hummus, bacon wrapped Medjool dates, and more.
Americana Kitchen & Bar
359 US-130, East Windsor
Americana Kitchen & Bar is a diner for upscale cassic American and Italian fare in a comfy and stylish retro setting. They serve dinner. They serve lunch. And they serve brunch.
The clean new interior, along with its two private event spaces hosts brunch bridal parties, showers, and birthday celebrations.
They serve a collection of both sparkling and non-sparkling wines from Italy, France & California. “A.M Cocktails” like the AKB Bloody Mary that includes Tito’s Vodka and Americana house-roasted tomatoes, as well as a Mimosa with Zonin Proscecco and freshly squeezed orange juice. They offer a variety of freshly squeezed and organic juices, coffees (including French-pressed and all espresso drinks), and nine varieties of organic loose-leaf tea.
The varied menu features salads, sandwiches and entrees, as well as everyone’s “morning favorites.” The Forest Omelet showcases shitake-porcini mushroom ragout, cheddar, chives, and a spicy green avocado salad. The Huevos Rancheros are eggs up with a tortilla, refried beans, salsa, avocado, cilantro and queso fresco. Other options include Eggs Benedict, Salmon Benedict, Poached Eggs Florentine, Fresh Buttermilk Pancakes and Blueberry Pancakes. You can also enjoy sides like Nueske’s bacon, hard-boiled eggs, grilled asparagus or silver dollar pancakes. There are a variety of croissants, danishes — and avocado toast — on the continental breakfast menu, all of which are baked fresh each day in their own on-site bakery. Other entrees include items like grilled lamb chops and a delicious Hawaiian poke bowl.
Although the outside is still under construction, guests are raving about the current results. Staff stated that there is a large covered patio opening up in August.
Brick House Tavern + Tap
3569 US Highway 1, Princeton
Brick House Tavern + Tap is a modern sports-pub chain that has recliners, bar food & a huge selection of beer. And on Saturdays and Sundays until 2PM, they also serve brunch.
The menu has a selection of items like Southern Fried Chicken Benedict (spicy buttermilk marinated fried chicken, poached eggs, toasted brioche & sriracha bacon hollandaise served with cheddar potato hash), The Bacon Benedict, Grand Mariner French Toast, Chicken and Waffles, Steak & Eggs, The Breakfast Plate & the Bison Benedict. Sides include house-made breakfast sausage, cheddar potato hash and hickory smoked bacon.
Order up something boozy like their Bloody Good Mary with Tito’s Vodka, Zing Zang, Guinness, pickle juice, topped with a deviled egg, salami, smoked cheddar and olive skewer; Blood Orange Whiskey Sour, with Maker’s Mark Bourbon, Blood Orange Liqueur and lemon; House Mimosa or a Moscow Mule. They also serve a wide variety of speciality drinks, along with serving domestic and IPA beer and wine.
Agricola Eatery
11Witherspoon Street, Princeton
Agricola features a variety “firsts,” like Fulper Farms Yogurt parfait with house-made granola, chia seeds and fresh berries, a Watermelon Gazpacho with cucumber relish, jalapeño relish, tofu feta and mint oil and Peach and Brown Butter Cinnamon Bun with caramel bourbon cream cheese glaze, as just a sampling of the menu. Other plates include Jersey Pork Roll Eggs Benedict, Summer Vegetable Frittata, Heirloom Tomato Shakshuka and House-Made Bacon Hash. You can also order sides like Trenton Pork Roll, Local Bacon, House-made Chicken Apple Sausage and Banana Bread.
A half dozen Cocktails grace the menu, with an Agricola Bloody Mary (with vodka, house-made spicy bloody mary mix and cilantro), Summer Breeze (tequila, mezcal, thubarb, pamlemouse, aperol, lime), Berry Nice to Meet You (bourbon, blackberry, leon and simple) and Farmers Juice (vodka, pimms, cucumber, lime, lemongrass) to just get started. Guests can also enjoy non-alcoholic drinks, fresh squeezed juices and coffee and espresso.
The Mosa Social
1178 NJ-34, Aberdeen Township
While Mosa Social is closed for summer, this spot is worth noting in your datebook for September, as there really seems to be nothing like it for a Boozy Brunch.
A “bottomless brunch” lasts 2 hours and runs from from 12:15PM-2:15PM with an after party through 4PM. Food includes stations for omelets, acai, bagels, skillet and greek yogurt parfaits, as well as salad, foccacia and french fries. There is also bacon, potatoes, eggs, muffins and french toast included, and lunch options like penne vodka, chicken francese and eggplant rollatini.
For $45 you receive unlimited coffee/tea, bottomless food and drinks including a mosa, bellini, man-mosa (Blue Moon and orange juice) and Miller Lite. There are additional “Rise and Shine Cocktails" for $8 like Frank’s Redhot Bloody Mary, as well as a Creamsicle Mimosa with a “classic mosa base” with heavy cream and an upside down Creamsicle, as well as a Mr. Jack Maple, which includes Jack Daniels, Vermont Maple Syrup and Sweet Vermouth, and is garnished with a waffle and Candied Apple Bacon. There is also a full bar available.
The Mosa Social features gardens and indoor backdrops that are perfect for selfies. DJ spins both during Brunch and in the after party in the Loft.
Special note: There is a dress-code policy you can check on their website. If you are celebrating a milestone, be sure to let your host know. The quest of honor receives an oversized unicorn cupcake with a large sparkler.
Mistral
66 Witherspoon Street, Princeton
Known as a sophisticated, globally-inspired restaurant with small plates in a serene & modern space with blond wood, Mistral’s brunch is served Sundays starting at 10:30AM.
There are starters and main dishes. The starter menu features items like Smoked Salmon Deviled Eggs with cream cheese, pickled onion and everything crumble, as well as a Smoked Mackerel Dip with charred scallion, caper, cucumber and salt & vinegar potato chips.
Breakfast favorites on the Main Course menu are Cinnamon French Toast with vanilla ice cream, lemon curd, blueberry and graham cracker, Soft Scramble with squash, cherry tomatoes and parmesan, Omelette with prosciutto cotto, spinach and gruyere, Crab Benedict with corn, spinach, poached eggs and hollandaise, a Classic Breakfast with two eggs, bacon, potatoes and toast and of course, a Brunch Burger with bacon jam, fried egg, aioli or a brioche bun. Brunch offers bloodies and mimosas for $6. Starting at noon, the full bar is open with a variety of speciality drinks, wine by the glass, and beer.
The Achemist & Barrister (A&B)
28 Witherspoon Street, Princeton
A&B is a quaint restaurant serving up standard American bar food. They offer a Brunch Menu on Sundays from 11A-3P with features bar fare — and some favorite breakfast staples.
Breakfast standouts include: Cinnamon Raisin Stuffed French Toasted is served with bananas, fresh berries and warm maple syrup, “The Kitchen Sink” with andouille & breakfast sausage, crumbled bacon, pepper jack & cheddar cheese, home fries, jalapeño crumbs, topped with “eggs your way,” and a choice of toast, “The Big Bang” with bacon strips and sausage links, french toast, mini potato pancakes with “eggs your way,” and last but not least — Breakfast Empanadas stuffed with pepper jack cheese, choizo, potato, cilantro, onions, peppers, served with black beans, “eggs your way,” sour cream and guacamole.
A&B has a variety of beer, wine and speciality drinks. They feature a Red Raspberry or White Peach Sangria with an abundance of seasonal fruit, as well as a list of mules, blueberry lemonade and cucumber lemonade for brunch.
Winberies
11 Witherspoon Street, Princeton
Winberies serves brunch on Sundays from 10AM-2PM. The brunch menu boasts a delicious sounding selections like Chicken & Waffles, Short Rib & Eggs Skillet, Pork Belly Eggs Benedict, Stuffed Challah French Toast, Biscuits and Gravy, Pulled Pork & Crispy Eggs — as well as “The Best Damn Breakfast Sandwich” with smoked gouda, white cheddar sauce, applewood smoked bacon, black forest ham, roasted tomato, fried eggs, spinach, chipotle and a choice of potatoes or fruit. There’s also a Build-Your-Own-Omelette section where guests can “create their own master piece” with ingredients such as black forest ham, tomato, red onion, spinach, cheddar, pepper jack, mushrooms and bell peppers.
A “Kids’ Korner” shows french toast, waffles and scrabbled eggs on the menu — and there is also sides of bacon, sausage, fresh fruit and breakfast potatoes to order.
The brunch menu spices things up with their Brunch Cocktails — a “Smokey Mary” features Casa Amigos Mazcal, BBQ Sauce, Candied Chipotle Maple Bacon and a Hickory Smoked Sea Salt Rim. The “Aperol Spritz” is Aperol, Pinot Grigio, Grand Baron Sparkling Rose Cava, Club Soda and Lime.
If you aren’t feeling breakfast food there are plenty of salads, soup, sandwiches, burgers and small plates to pick from.
PJ Pancake House & Tavern
938 Bear Tavern Rd, Ewing
While PJ Pancake House is a breakfast staple in Princeton with “brunch” available around the clock, their Ewing location hosts a full bar along with “Brunch Cocktails.” The list includes The Bloody, ScrewDriver, Mimosa, Pina Colada Mimosa, Bellini, Ice Cap Coffee with Crown Royal Vanilla Whiskey blended with Rumchata, Coffee and ice, Brunch Punch with Three Olives Vodka, Prosecco, Lemon-Lime soda, Orange Juice, Pineapple topped with fresh berries, and Back in the Saddle.
For brunch enjoy any of PJ’s breakfast favorites like their eggs and omelets (a Chili Omelet, Spanish Omelet, Pastrami and Swiss Omelet, Smoke Salmon Omelet and Vegetable Omelet all grace the long menu), Breakfast Quesadillas, PJ’s Trenton Pork Roll Sandwich, Lox, Stock and Bagel and a long list of sides like PJ’s Mashed Browns, Canadian Bacon, Pork Sausage, Bacon Butter Grit Cakes, and so much more.
PJ’s famous pancakes are a must, and their list is long: Old West Buckwheat, Nutty Multi-grain, Pecan, Oreo, Spicy Apple, Peach, Nutella, Banana Pecan … we are just getting started. If you cannot decide try the sample and pick three different pancakes. You can also add Vermont Grade A Pure Maple Syrup to make your pancakes extra special.
