American Repertory Ballet (ARB) continues its dynamic 2024-2025 season with the breathtaking world premiere of Ethan Stiefel's SPIRIT OF THE HIGHLANDS on Friday, March 7 through Sunday, March 9, 2025 at the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center. An adaptation of August Bournonville's romantic classic La Sylphide, SPIRIT OF THE HIGHLANDS re-imagines the tale of a Scotsman's pursuit of a mystical forest spirit. Building off of the classic story, a young Scotsman named James Munro is betrothed to a woman named Effie, when he catches sight of a mystical fairy, known as The Sylph. Entranced by her magical beauty, he abandons Effie to follow The Sylph into the forest to proclaim his devotion. However, through his pursuits, he is tricked by evil witch Madge and eventually loses everything he holds dear.
Tickets for SPIRIT OF THE HIGHLANDS range from $30 to $60. ADA seating is available. Running time is approximately 1 hour and 25 minutes with one intermission.

Caleb Eckstein is a jazz trombonist, composer, and arranger based in New Jersey. He is a 2020 graduate of Northwestern University, double majoring in Neuroscience and Jazz Performance. He has performed or recorded with Randy Brecker, Bob Minzter, Warren Wolf, Rufus Reid, Brianna Thomas, and Benny Benack III. In addition to being a freelance musician, Caleb leads many of his own ensembles, most notably the Congregation Jazz Orchestra, a full piece big band he co-leads with NYC drummer Jared Decker. Jeremy Leon is a saxophonist, composer and educator from Montreal, Canada. His reputation is growing as a torchbearer for impassioned artistic practice among East Coast jazz's up-and-comers, with his creative energy and tireless drive serving him both as a bandleader and as a sideman. Jeremy completed his bachelor's degree in jazz performance at McGill University and is currently completing his master's degree at Rutgers.

In fact, he sees both sets of his grandparents every Sunday for dinner. This is routine until he has to tell them that he’s been offered a dream job. The job he’s been waiting for—marketing executive—would take him away from his beloved, but annoying, grandparents. He tells them. The news doesn’t sit so well. Thus begins a series of schemes to keep Nick around. $24.
