Trenton's Cadwalader Park Hosting Start and Finish Lines
TRENTON, NEW JERSEY – The second annual Tour de Towpath event will return to Central New Jersey on October 25 offering residents an opportunity to bicycle, run, or walk up to 50 miles through the D&R Canal State Park. Produced for the second time by the D&R Canal Watch, the Tour de Towpath will be hosted by the City of Trenton in Cadwalader Park, where one of New Jersey's great city parks connects with a great state-owned park.
Registration is open now through BikeReg at tourdetowpath.org.
"We started this event last year to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the D&R Canal State Park, and found that participants also were excited to discover Cadwalader Park, which was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted of Central Park fame," said Linda Barth, president of D&R Canal Watch. "We are grateful to the state and city parks for supporting this event, which is a great way for people to enjoy outdoor recreation, nature, and history."
The Tour de Towpath will feature a flagship 48-mile bicycle round trip to the historic village of Blackwells Mills in Franklin Township, as well as a 23-mile cycling route to Turning Basin Park in Princeton. In addition, there is a non-competitive half-marathon run/walk to Washington Crossing State Park in Hopewell and a 5k fun run/walk. A canal festival at the City of Trenton's Cadwalader Park will greet participants upon their return with music, food, and a community village featuring local nonprofits, such as the New Jersey Conservation Foundation and D&R Canal Watch.
The top sponsors of the event are Capital Health and New Jersey American Water. Nonprofit partners include New Jersey Conservation Foundation, the Outdoor Equity Alliance, and the Trenton Health Department.
The Tour de Towpath was organized by the nonprofit D&R Canal Watch to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the D&R Canal State Park with a noncompetitive bike, run, or walk along part of the 70-mile linear park that is New Jersey's second most popular park. Participants can save by pre-registering early at www.tourdetowpath.org.
