Celebrate the beginning of fall with music, dancing, and crafts for all ages in Princeton's oldest nature preserve.
Princeton, NJ – Sunday, September 21, 2025, 3:00-5:00 PM – This year's festival offers a variety of activities for the entire family. Stop by the May's Café station to get a cup of coffee, hot chocolate, or local spicebush tea. You can also visit the craft table, led by artist-in-residence Hope VanCleaf, to contribute to the Herrontown Woods Community Collage Project or learn how to make a traditional corn husk dolly. Festival merchandise will be available for purchase, as well as seedlings and starters and enter the raffle to win your very own Einstein Begonia. The main event kicks off with a special performance by the Celtic band The Chivalrous Crickets, who will perform a set of autumn-inspired songs and ballads. They will also provide musical accompaniment for local radio personality Alexander Randall, who will tell the mystical lore of "Harvest Home," the folk holiday of the fall equinox, in character as "John Barleycorn." Following the performance, the band will lead a ceilidh (pronounced kay-lee), a traditional Irish social gathering with music and dancing. You don't need any prior experience to join in; the dances are taught on-site and are similar to square dancing but with a Celtic flair.
Tickets are $10 in advance and at the door, and children under 12 get in for free. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own seating, blankets, picnics, and appropriate footwear. Parking is available at the 600 Snowden Lane preserve entrance. https://www.herrontownwoods.org/events/cricketsfundraiser2025-88tzb
