Lecture - “The Great New York Fire of 1776: A Lost Story of the American Revolution”

Thursday October 16, 2025
1:30 PM - 2:30 PM

Benjamin Carp will discuss his book The Great New York Fire of 1776: A Lost Story of the American Revolution. New York City, the strategic center of the Revolutionary War, was the most important place in North America in 1776. That summer, an unruly rebel army under George Washington repeatedly threatened to burn the city rather than let the British take it. Shortly after the Crown’s forces took New York City, much of it mysteriously burned to the ground.

It is a free event held in a hybrid format. Visitors may attend in-person in the Visitor Center Auditorium at 1112 River Rd, Washington Crossing, PA 18977 or virtually on Zoom. Log-in information will be sent following registration. In the event of inclement weather, this will be a virtual-only event and registrants will be notified. Registration is required for both in-person and virtual attendance.
