Demonstration: Pysanky Decorating and History, Princeton Public Library

Wednesday March 18, 2026
4:00 PM - 5:30 PM

Artist Jenny Santa Maria demonstrates how to create pysanky, eggs decorated using the centuries-old Ukrainian method using beeswax and richly layered dyes. Registration required; space is limited. Participants will watch the artist as she transforms simple eggs into stunning works of art and learn about the Neolitic origins of pysanky, the traditions of creating and sharing these eggs and the symbolic language woven into every line and motif. Each design tells a story and each finished egg is a small masterpiece.

Pop-Up Choir Princeton, ACP

Wednesday March 18, 2026
6:30 PM - 7:30 PM

Pop-Up Choir Princeton is an all-ages community singing experience where families, neighbors, and music-lovers come together to sing pop songs in harmony — no auditions, no pressure, just joy.

  • Kids and parents sing side-by-side
  • Adults who “used to sing” feel safe to try again
  • First-time singers get to experience the magic of choir

Sing shortened versions of well-loved pop songs arranged with easy-to-follow harmonies.

Rather than being divided by age or gender, singers choose the range that feels best for their voice: Low, Middle, or High.

Families sit together and work as a team — either choosing to all sing the same part or challenge each other to sing in harmony.

There will also be moments where singers can volunteer to sing a short line of the melody on their own. If you feel inspired, just raise your hand when prompted and you can try the melody while the choir supports you.

A screen-free singing experience:

Pop-Up Choir Princeton is intentionally phone-free and screen-free. Instead of staring at iPads or projectors, everyone receives a simple lyric sheet and learns the music together by ear and by voice — the way humans have always sung. This keeps the focus on listening, connection, and the shared energy of singing in the same room.

Her pluck and spirit carried her through victories and tragedies not only during the war but throughout a remarkable life of resilience and reinvention. Sponsored by the Friends of the Lawrence Library. Please visit events.mcl.org to register to receive the link to the program.
