Princeton Performing Arts

Princeton has an ample choice of theater, concert, and dance programs, single performances as well as subscription series. Area residents can enjoy performances by widely known ensembles and soloists, by area groups and artists of high professional caliber, and by amateur groups. Calendars of events are mailed by McCarter Theatre and by the Friends of Music at Princeton (to members). The Friends of Music sponsors numerous free concerts.

MCCARTER THEATRE 91 University Place 258-2787

McCarter Theatre has a full program of professional theater, concerts (classical to rock), and dance. It was built in 1929 to accommodate the annual satirical show of the Princeton University Triangle Club, famous for its male chorus line. The show is still performed every year (though nowadays women take part). Classical film programs are offered in summer elsewhere on the campus. There are programs for children as well as special holiday programs.

Plays directed and performed by students during the academic year. In the summer, it is a community theater.

Princeton Community Players, an amateur group, produces several plays a season at this theater. Occasionally, the Triangle Club also produces a play there.

WESTMINSTER CHOIR COLLEGE Home of the world-renowned Westminster Choir, Westminster Choir College of Rider University  is a four-year music college and graduate school with a unique choral emphasis that prepares men and women for careers in performance and as music leaders in schools, universities, churches and professional and community organizations. Westminster also offers year-round performances by students, faculty and guest artists.

Vouchers for half price tickets to theater, concert and other performances in the area are obtainable from the Arts Council of Princeton 921-0404. Subject to availability.

SUMMER SOUNDS are concerts arranged by the Recreation Department at various sites in the town throughout the summer months.
