The Public Library is open to everyone for in-library use of materials and
for reference services. Library cards, required for borrowing, are free to all
who live in or pay taxes to Princeton Borough or Township.
The collection includes books for adults and children, magazines,
newspapers, records, CDs, audio tapes and video tapes. Record and players, along with earphones, are available for listening in the library. There
are telephone books for all of New Jersey and major U.S. cities, college
catalogs on microfiche, large print books, ESOL texts, foreign language
books, pamphlet files, consumer publications, and annual reports of local and
Fortune 500 firms. These extensive resources are supplemented by a
statewide network for inter-library loans and reference service.
The Library also offers Home Reader Service for the homebound,
individual literacy tutoring of adults by trained volunteers and a Community
Calendar of public events. The Dow Jones News Retrieval System provides
access to a data base of current business, financial and general information.
Patrons can use photocopiers, microfilm reader-printers and typewriters. The
Children's Room offers reference and reader's advisory service, as well as a
variety of programs. A ramp at the entrance and a self-service elevator make
the building accessible to the handicapped.
The University library, a major research facility, charges a fee to all without
a Campus Identification Card. A range of access options exits, beginning with
a One-Week-Pass for a nominal fee.
Firestone is a deposit library for Federal, New Jersey and United Nations
documents. Specific requests from this collection only are accessible free of
charge for on-site study. Displays from the
Rare Book and Manuscript Collections are open to the public.
