Updike Farmstead Museum and Grounds Tours
The Historical Society of Princeton announces a new way to visit their headquarters at Updike Farmstead. Effective January 3, 2026, the museum will be accessible to the public exclusively through guided tours led by a museum educator. Tours of the museum and grounds will be held on Fridays at 12:00 and Saturdays at 12:00 and 2:00. Advance tickets required; adults are $10, children 12 and under are free.
Visitors will enjoy a guided introductory tour (approximately 30 minutes) of the Historical Society’s late 18th/early 19th century farmhouse museum and grounds, including the renovated barn and recently restored wagon shed. Exhibitions include the Einstein Salon and Innovators Gallery, featuring HSP’s collection of Albert Einstein’s furniture and other personal belongings, and Princeton Reflected: Stories from HSP’s Collection. Community Invited to Honor Martin Luther King, Jr. with Letters and Cards - Mercer County Library System invites community members to celebrate the spirit of service and compassion by participating in a meaningful event designed to bring joy to those in need. Dr. King's legacy of justice, equality, and service to others inspires an annual Day of Service, which the library is extending to a four-week opportunity. From Monday, January 12 through Friday, February 6, 2025, Individuals, families, and groups of all ages, are invited to write letters and create heartfelt cards for homebound Mercer County Meals on Wheels patrons. All materials for card-making and letter-writing are provided at all nine branches of the Mercer County Library System. Attendees may stop by their local branch during regular operating hours. Friends of the Lawrence Library January Book Sale
Shop the Friends of the Lawrence Library January Book Sale for thousands of used, gently-read books for readers of all ages. The sale opens to the general public on Friday, January 30, at 10:00 am and ends Monday, February 2 at 2:00 pm at the Lawrence Headquarters Branch of the Mercer County Library System, 2751 Brunswick Pike, Lawrenceville, New Jersey. Payment by cash, check or Zelle only. A special Early Admission event will be held on Thursday, January 29 from 1:00 - 4:00 pm where the public will have the first chance to get some amazing deals. Entry to the Early Admission is free for current members of the Friends of the Lawrence Library, $5 for the general public, and $20 for patrons with scanners. This event is the only time scanning devices will be permitted. Beginning Friday, January 30 at 10:00 am, entry to the sale is free and open to the general public. J Lab Certificate Course @Princeton Public Library
This eight-session course teaches participants the basic news writing and reporting skills needed to cover issues of concern to their community. All materials are provided. Registration required. Session topics include interviewing strategies, photography tips, fact-checking, determining newsworthiness, handling ethical questions of community reporting, following basic journalistic writing practices and more.
Students must attend at least six sessions (first and last class are mandatory) and write a full article for their final project to obtain the certificate. Sessions are led by a journalism professor and include guest presentations from writers and editors from several community publications and national media outlets. Final projects are published online.

2026 Land Steward Internship: Applications Now Open Friends of Princeton Open Space - (FOPOS) seeks 2 to 3 Land Steward Interns for the 2026 season. The interns will work under the direction of FOPOS's Director of Natural Resources and Stewardship, assisting in the day-to-day activities of managing an open space preserve. 1/11 - Artist Reception, D&R Greenway, 2-4pm.
Garden State Watercolor Society (GSWS) will honor artist Bob Sakson in a special showing of his art at D&R Greenway Land Trust, from January 5 to February 4, 2026. Bob Sakson (1938-2020) was a celebrated New Jersey watercolor artist and teacher, an Emeritus Member of GSWS, and a prestigious Dolphin Fellow of the American Watercolor Society.
Known for en plein air realism, Bob spent his life capturing the beauty of New Jersey in scenic landscapes or historical sites. This exhibition continues to showcase his paintings of familiar and timeless scenes: Allentown and historic Walnford (Monmouth County Park), Cassville, Colliers Mill, Lambertville, Mount Airy, Stockton, Titusville, Washington Crossing, several South Jersey shore scenes, as well as Churchtown, Pennsylvania. The Traversing the Ten Crucial Days Bus Tour begins and ends at Washington Crossing, PA. Looking to lend a hand this winter? Join the FOPOS Tree Tenders and nurture the forest through its peaceful winter season. As a Tree Tender, you'll work independently at the Preserve to gently care for the native trees and shrubs, use hand pruners to clear invasive vines from protective cages, and monitor our new plantings. Adults may work independently, while minors can work under the supervision of a parent/guardian. Step outside, make a difference, and help the forest grow stronger one tree at a time. Born in New York City in 1932 and raised in its metropolitan area, Ronald S. Schotland was captivated by the city’s evolving landscape, its architecture, street life, and quiet poetry of postwar New York. His black-and-white photographs taken during 1947–1964 while in high school and later as a college undergraduate and graduate student working towards a PhD in Chemistry preserve a time of transition — moments of grace and grit that shaped the city’s enduring character. In succeeding years his interest in photography continued as an avocation. Join us for this opening reception and artist discussion as Ron Schotland reflects on his process, the stories behind his images, and the enduring spirit of Old New York.
