The Woman of Achievement Awards
Mercer County Executive Dan Benson and the Mercer County Commission on the Status of Women are seeking nominations for the 2026 Woman of Achievement and Young Woman of Achievement awards. The Woman of Achievement Award was established by the Commission to honor women in Mercer who volunteer their time to make Mercer County a better place to live, work, and raise a family. The Young Woman of Achievement Award honors a high school student who has demonstrated outstanding dedication to community service within the County. The deadline to nominate an inspiring woman or high school student is 12 noon EST on Monday, December 15, 2025.To nominate a Woman of Achievement, go to www.mercercounty.org/woaform.

St. Nicholas Project Seeks Volunteers to Spread Cheer This Season
Celebrating its 25th year, the YWCA Princeton's St. Nicholas Project is currently seeking some helpful "elves" to keep the magic of the holidays alive by providing presents to local families in the community. Open to everyone — including individuals, families, community groups, local businesses, etc. — the St. Nicholas Project allows a meaningful opportunity for individuals to "become St. Nicholas" by choosing to sponsor a large or small family or an individual, with options available to fit any budget.
Participants will be provided with a "wish list" for a particular family and/or individual in need. Gifts should be new and unwrapped. All items MUST be dropped off on Tuesday, December 16th, between 8 a.m. and 12 noon at the YWCA Princeton's circular driveway in front of the building, located at 59 Paul Robeson Place.To adopt a family as "St. Nicholas," make a contribution, or learn more about how to get involved, please contact Jill Jachera at jill.jachera@gmail.com

JOIN THE MEDICAL RESERVES CORPS
During a crisis people often ask, "How can I help?" The Mercer County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) can help you answer that question. The Mercer County Medical Reserve Corps unit invites any licensed health care professional, practicing or retired, who lives or works in Mercer County and any community volunteer who lives or works in Mercer County who has an interest in health and emergency preparedness issues to join. Medical Reserve Corps volunteers supplement existing emergency and public health resources to prepare for and respond to emergencies at a local level. All volunteers receive free training. Got a bike you no longer use? Turn it into an opportunity for local youth! The Boys & Girls Clubs of Mercer County Bike Exchange accepts bicycles in any condition—our volunteers can refurbish, repair, and resell them to support afterschool and summer programs for young people.

16th Annual Knit for Others Program Princeton Public Library
Through the end of the year, handmade winter items are being collected for distribution to area organizations. Items will be displayed on a clothesline at the Welcome Desk on the first floor. Most in need are traditional scarves, mittens and hats for all ages. Sweaters and afghans are also appreciated. Knitters and crocheters may use any type of wool or acrylic yarn. Kits with enough yard to make a hat or pair of mittens are available at the Welcome Desk. Patterns are also available. Donated items, preferably in a sealed plastic bag, can be placed in the basket near the Welcome Desk.

Crosstown Transportation Services for Seniors & Disabled
Not sure how to get around in the bad weather? Crosstown is a door-to-door transportation service for seniors aged sixty-five and up and those with disabilities who live in the Municipality of Princeton. The service is provided by a partnership between CMAP and RideProvide, a program of the Greater Mercer Transportation Management Authority. To be a Crosstown rider you must meet specific requirements and register through the Center for Modern Aging.

Bundle up and come shop a variety of holiday arrangements, amaryllis, wreaths and other Christmas gifts. The sale is hosted by The Garden Club of Princeton and all proceeds support The Garden Club of Princeton's Community Trust projects, like the ongoing maintenance at All Wars Memorial Park, a veteran's memorial in downtown Princeton.

12/5 - Holiday Jam & Toy Drive with Princeton University, Palmer Square, 5-7pm. Celebrate the season with joyful performances by Princeton University’s talented a cappella groups, while helping spread holiday cheer by bringing a new toy to donate. 12/6 - 2025 Mill Hill Holiday House & Window Tour, 12-5pm.,
The House Tour started 58 years ago, is Mill Hill’s signature event, and a Trenton tradition. Homes in the neighborhood will display special decorations through their front windows and/or on their exteriors, with some of the homeowners hosting visitors with holiday music, refreshments, and insightful conversation on their stoops and sidewalks. With the variety of home sizes, ages, and architectural styles, Mill Hill’s nineteenth-century streetscape is one of the most interesting between New York and Philadelphia. 12/6 - Spectacular, Spectacular! A Holiday Cabaret, The Graduate Hotel, 6 and 8pm. Spectacular, Spectacular! A Holiday Cabaret, invites local artists, and special guests to raise funds for Princeton Porchfest 2026. It is a fun-filled opportunity to bring together the community to laugh, sing, dance, and celebrate the accomplishments of the year. This year’s cabaret will once again be brought to life through the vision and enthusiasm of its organizers: Cheryl Fitzgerald, consummate stage performer, and Marion Young, Executive Director of Princeton University’s Lewis Center for the Arts. A highlight of the program will be a special performance by Marian Torres, current star in the Broadway company of Alicia Keys’ Hell’s Kitchen. Torres — who has also graced the Broadway stage as Elphaba in Wicked — will perform a number from Wicked, offering audiences a rare, intimate musical moment.

12/7 - A Musical Tribute to the Sourland Mountains, Hopewell Theater, 2-3:30pm. The Hopewell Valley Arts Council is proud to present the premiere of The Sourland Symphony, a sweeping new musical work by acclaimed local guitarist and composer James Popik. Inspired by the beauty, mystery, and enduring presence of the Sourland Mountains, this nine-piece instrumental suite blends elements of rock, jazz, classical, and blues into a rich, acoustic soundscape. Popik and his ensemble of seasoned musicians invite listeners on a vivid musical journey—from the joyful momentum of Woosamonsa Valley to the expansive, meditative sweep of Southside Spring, Roaring Rocks and Devils Half Acre Blues.

12/7 - Gen. George Washington Presents “The Dark Days of the American Revolution”, 2-3:30pm.,
As the days keep getting darker in early December, it is a perfect time to hear “General Washington” talking about the Dark Days of the American Revolution. Come out as they kick off the semiquincentennial at Summerseat House, General Washington's Headquarters, on December 7th at 2:00 p.m. Sam Davis, portraying Washington, will bring that time in history to life, sharing details of the daring Battles of New York, Trenton (first and second), and Princeton. 12/7 - Dorothea's House Program/Lecture - Ennio Morricone, 5-7pm
Pianist and teacher Alessandra Tiraterra will present a program on the late Italian composer Ennio Morricone, whose more than 70 film scores include music for "Cinema Paradiso," "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" and "A Fistful of Dollars." The event is free. Dorothea's House is located at 120 John Street in Princeton. Participants are encouraged to bring refreshments to share at a post-program reception. 12/9 - Music at Morpeth: Jeff Snyder + Jacqueline Kerrod, 7pm. Morpeth Contemporary, 43 W Broad St, Hopewell, NJ 08525 (609) 333-9393. Genre: electronic, experimental, improvised music. Suggested donation: $25. Jeff Snyder is a composer, improviser, and instrument designer living in Princeton, New Jersey, and active in the New York City area. He is the Director of Electronic Music at Princeton University, and the Director of PLOrk, the Princeton Laptop Orchestra. Described as 'exceptionally virtuosic and sensitive', South African harpist Jacqueline Kerrod is perfectly at home across multiple genres and performs throughout the United States and Europe. Jeff and Jacqueline join forces on December 9th in the beautiful gallery space of Morpeth Contemporary in downtown Hopewell, to create something completely spontaneous and unique using their chosen instruments: electronics + harps. Breathe in sound and silence through guided meditation as you listen to music more viscerally than ever, meditating to the playing of accordionist Théo Ould, guided by Matthew Weiner, Associate Dean in the Princeton University Office of Religious Life. 12/14 - Washington Crossing Reenactment, Washington Crossing Historic Park, 10-3pm. Each December, thousands of people gather on the banks of the Delaware River to watch the reenactment of George Washington’s daring 1776 Christmas night river crossing. During the event, several hundred reenactors in Continental military dress listen to an inspiring speech by General Washington and then row across the river in replica Durham boats. Come out for the First Crossing on Sunday, December 14th, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM (actual crossing at 1:00 PM). This is not a dress rehearsal, but rather a fundraising event. Beyond witnessing the historical reenactment, visitors can immerse themselves in the Colonial Era for the day. During this event, families are invited to participate in a range of activities.

12/21 - Winter Solstice History/Nature Hike, Historical Society of Princeton, 1:30-4pm. Princeton Battlefield parking lot,500 Mercer Street, Princeton. Join us on a hike through the treasured Institute Woods to explore bits of history, as well as the sites and sounds that form this unique and serene setting. Hear stories about the Woods’ origin and the ways IAS mathematicians, physicists, and other members have engaged with it. Stops along the way will highlight the history of early Stony Brook, the Battle of Princeton, the Old Trolley trail, the establishment of the Institute for Advanced Study, and Founders Rock. We will make a special stop at the infamous Swinging Bridge, then hike over to the observation decks at the adjacent Rogers Wildlife Refuge. Along the way, there will be moments to observe, engage, and identify the different varieties of birds, plants, trees, and everything in between!
Please note: This is a moderate to advanced hike with uneven terrain. Trails may be muddy/slippery. Comfortable hiking boots/shoes, water, and insect repellent are recommended.

12/29 - Winter Mini-Camp, The Watershed Institute, 9-4pm.
School's out for winter break- spend some of those days getting active while exploring nature with Watershed Educators! Campers should be prepared for a busy day of being outdoors and lots of walking no matter the weather. We recommend packing waterproof shoes, warm layers, lunch and a few snacks, a large water bottle, and a comfortable backpack. Grades K-4. Dress for the weather of the day.

After a stunning debut last fall, conductor Ruth Ochs returns to the Capital Philharmonic's podium as a Music Director finalist — this time she will lead our most festive night of the year. Celebrate the turning of the year with a program that dances across borders and centuries — from the swirling romance of Strauss’s Blue Danube to the spirited rhythms of Spain and beyond. This joyful concert is filled with color, flair, and just the right amount of sparkle.
