Hopewell Valley Arts Council Celebrates 11th Annual Amazing Pumpkin Carve October 9 – 12 - This October, Woolsey Park will transform into a fall wonderland for the 11th Annual Amazing Pumpkin Carve, presented by the Hopewell Valley Arts Council. From October 9–12, under a big top tent, 30 massive pumpkins will be turned into jaw‑dropping works of art by local artists—whimsical, spooky, and everything in between. New this year: a beer garden, live music at the Woolsey Park bandshell, pumpkin painting, storytelling by the firepits, and a hay bale playground for kids. Food Scraps Program Expanded - The Princeton Food Scraps Drop-Off Program has expanded to ten sites as its success continues to grow. In addition to the collection sites at the two municipal buildings, at Riverside School, Littlebrook School, and on General Johnson Road, we now have bins at Griggs Farm, on Thanet Circle, at the Westminster Choir College, on Mercer Road, and at the former PFARS building on North Harrison Street at Clearview Avenue. Since its inception in October 2023, the food scraps drop-off program has diverted over 44 tons of organics from landfill. Nearly 400 households are helping Princeton to reduce landfill waste, produce clean energy, and provide soil amendments for New Jersey farms. Please register for the program on our website.

McCarter Theatre Center continues to deepen its commitment to accessibility with the launch of 35 and Under Tix, a new program designed to make world-class theater, music, and dance affordable to younger audiences. Patrons aged 16–35 can now purchase tickets for just $35 to select performances throughout the season. To purchase, patrons can enter the promo code 35TIX before selecting seats online. Tickets must be picked up at the box office beginning one hour prior to curtain with a government-issued ID verifying age and matching the purchaser's name. Land Stewardship Volunteer Sessions at FOPOS
FOPOS relies on volunteers to help achieve our mission. Throughout all four seasons, FOPOS offers regular volunteer sessions as well as scheduled group volunteer opportunities. Volunteers work under the guidance of FOPOS’s stewardship team to assist with a variety of conservation projects at the Billy Johnson Mountain Lakes Nature Preserve in Princeton, NJ. 10/6 - Continuing Conversation on Race and White Privilege Talk, Not in Our Town (NIOT) Princeton, 7:30pm At Not in Our Town (NIOT) Princeton’s October 6, 2025 (7:30 pm) Continuing Conversation on Race and White Privilege, entitled “Trenton Makes, the State Takes,” Caroline Clarke, Trenton resident, civil rights lawyer, and NIOT’s chair will talk about the struggle for control of Trenton’s Water Works. The proposal to create a regional public utility would mean loss of community control over an important municipal asset. Clarke will explain how this effort is another example of the transfer of wealth from a Black city to whiter, wealthier suburbs, a contributing factor to the growing racial wealth gap in New Jersey as well as in the United States as a whole.

10/7 - Lecture: Understanding ADHD: Community Information Session, Princeton Public Library., 6:30-8pm., Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) is one of the most commonly diagnosed disorders in children and adolescents. It is also one of the most commonly misdiagnosed and misunderstood disorders affecting both children and adults. In this talk, Dr. Eric Deibler from The Center for Emotional Health will delve into the signs and symptoms of ADHD, the critical concept of executive functions, issues in who gets diagnosed and why, and what ADHD really feels like. He will also talk about the important yet often overlooked ways that ADHD, especially when undiagnosed or untreated, negatively impacts individuals across their lifespan. Lastly, he will cover some of the different treatments, strategies, and approaches that can be effective in helping individuals with ADHD manage their executive functioning difficulties.

10/8 - Public Embroidery Event, Lecture, and Exhibition, Updike Farmstead, 1-4pm., The Historical Society of Princeton (HSP) will host a public embroidery event, lecture, and exhibition at Updike Farmstead. The public is invited to observe stitchers work on the New Jersey panel of America’s Tapestry. In addition, free needlework tutorials will be available from members of the Princeton and Colonial West Jersey Chapters of the Embroiderers’ Guild of America (EGA). 18th century examples of New Jersey needlework, on loan from a private collection, will be on display in HSP’s museum. At 2:00 pm, project director Stefan Romero will give a lecture about his vision for America’s Tapestry. Immediately following the main program, at 3:00 pm, members of the Princeton EGA will offer a fun workshop entitled “From Needle to Gourd: Turn Your Needlepoint into a Pumpkin.” Registrants should bring a piece of needlepoint that is damaged or no longer usable, and materials will be available to transform it into decorative pumpkins for the fall. 10/11 - Family-Friendly Camp Meeting Reenactment, SSAAM, 12-4pm., On Saturday, October 11 (rain or shine), the Stoutsburg Sourland African American Museum (SSAAM) will hold its 2nd annual free, family-friendly 1899 Camp Meeting Reenactment with live music, costumed reenactors, horse and buggy rides, arts and crafts, baked treats, and more.
Camp Meetings were the social and spiritual event of the year in the Sourland Mountain region from the 1800s until the 1930s. These enormous community gatherings brought people together across racial, socioeconomic, and generational differences. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own picnic lunch to enjoy on the grass (blankets and lawn chairs welcome). Picnic lunch boxes will also be sold from noon until 1:30pm (or while supplies last). At 1:30pm, visitors will enjoy a concert by the SSAAM Heritage Ensemble, an all-African American choral group helmed by Vinroy Brown Jr. Please RSVP here and reserve your spot! 10/11- Cultural Program, Dorothea's House, 5-7pm The first offering of the 2025-26 season of Dorothea's House programs will feature Rome native Andrea Marini, who dances with the American Repertory Ballet Company. Marini will give an overview of how dance has accompanied human beings—even before the emergence of language. In Italy, traditional folk dances still reflect the fusion between ancient Italic cultures and the influences of the various populations they came into contact with over time. He will explore some of the most iconic Italian folk dances—from the Tarantella to the Furlana—leading up to the refined art of ballet and the prestigious Italian opera and symphonic foundations. The event is free. Dorothea's House is located at 120 John Street in Princeton. Participants are encouraged to bring refreshments to share at a post-program reception. 10/11 - The Devil & Daisy Dirt, Old City Hall – Bordentown. 6:30 and 9pm., A bluegrass tall tale about the Jersey Devil—with live music, storytelling, and an 8-foot wearable puppet—created by Alex Dawson and performed with Dan Diana, Arlan Feiles, and Jackie Fogel. Pianist Lew Coopersmith and violinist Burgel Zomorodi will play a sonata by Ludvig van Beethoven followed by pianist Frances Slade performing pieces by Felix Mendelssohn and Alberto Ginastera. The program continues with pianist Mina Perry playing selections by Wolfgang A Mozart and Frederic Chopin. The program concludes with pianist Rosanne Nahass performing pieces by Claude Debussy and Sergei Rachmaninoff. The program is free and hosted by Belle Mead Friends of Music.

10/12 - The Sounds of Diwali, WWAC, 4-7pm. From Carnatic Roots to Movie Rhythms - Join us for an evening of music you won't forget. Audiences will be immersed in an evening of rhythm, melody, and dance with performances by Jhenkaara (Carnatic devotional), Ajay Siva (mridangamist), Vinutha Ramakrishnan (Carnatic violinst), Sur Taal Sangam (Hindustani classical), Swara’s Mahathi Chithi (Carnatic flautist), Nrutha Aaloka (Indian fusion dance), and Surabhi Fusion (Carnatic fusion). Shoppers can expect bargains in housewares and electronics, shoes and clothes for men, women and children, as well as books, toys, jewelry, framed art, and linens. Unique silver and china can be found in the Boutique, and suits, ties and designer apparel will be available in the better men's and women's departments. Proceeds will benefit Trinity's local and international outreach programs. This year's rummage sale starts with a first-day ticketed sale on Thursday, October 16 from noon - 5 PM. 10/18 - Alt Rock Fest 'Four on the Floor' @ACP, 6-9pm. Catch over three hours of high-voltage alt rock from Giant Inflatable Dog, Cherry Blossoms, Bomber Jacket, and The Plebs. Founded by local musician Jedd Lopez, this artist-run festival fuels the future of live music and raises funds for the Arts Council of Princeton. 10/25 - 'Oh God…Beautiful Machine', Patriots Theater at Trenton’s War Memorial, 7:30pm.The Capital Philharmonic of New Jersey (CPNJ) proudly presents the world premiere of Oh God…Beautiful Machine, a monumental symphonic jazz work which wrestles with the conundrum of loving the earth in a time of climate change. The collaboration features text composed by Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Yusef Komunyakaa and music composed by Princeton University Composer-in-Residence, Vince di Mura.
Combining a full orchestra, jazz ensemble, traditional Chinese instrumentalists, and a women’s chorus, Oh God…Beautiful Machine is a genre-defying musical odyssey spanning ten movements and nearly 90 minutes. The evening will begin with a festival style event starting at 6:00 PM with a pre-concert performance, visual works by local artists, vendors and a lecture by the composer starting at 6:45 PM. The concert will be followed by a VIP reception open to Capital Philharmonic season subscribers, advertisers and sponsors.

Audience favorite Aubree Oliverson returns to open our 2025-26 Season the weekend of October 25-26. She will perform Antonín Dvorák’s endearing Violin Concerto in A Minor, Op. 53. Also on the program are Dobrinka Tabakova’s Orpheus’ Comet and Arnold Schoenberg’s 1937 orchestration of Johannes Brahms’ Piano Quartet in G Minor, Op. 25. Oct 26 performance at 4pm.
