Princeton Learning Cooperative Seeks Volunteers - The teens at Princeton Learning Cooperative are always on the lookout for interesting, dedicated people who are willing to share their knowledge and skills. Generally a one-hour-a-week commitment, PLC volunteers tutor one-on-one, lead small-group classes, or offer a one-time workshop in a wide range of topics. This year, our volunteers are able to choose between in-person work at our center and remote teaching/tutoring if you are out of the Princeton area or have health concerns. More Info

The New York to Philadelphia Greenway Ride is looking for some friendly and helpful Princeton area individuals to volunteer with them at the YMCA Princeton, the overnight location for this year’s ride. Riders will arrive in Princeton and head to the YMCA to collect their gear for the night. Some riders will camp at the YMCA while others will be staying in local area hotels. Individuals are needed to help set up the site and run it starting on Saturday, August 28, until Sunday, August 29. Click here for more information.

8/7 – Community Learn to Row Day, Princeton National Rowing Association, 8:30-1pm., Please come dressed for physical activity (sneakers, shorts, t-shirt) as you will learn the basics of the rowing stroke on land first on the ergometer (rowing machine), and then you will have the opportunity to row on the water! We are planning to utilize 8 person boats and those individuals who are not vaccinated will need to wear a mask on land and on the water. However if you are fully vaccinated, it is not required to wear a mask. 8/7 – Butterfly Festival, The Watershed Institute, 10-5pm., Join us at our 21st annual Watershed Butterfly Festival – an in-person celebration of family fun to share the joys and wonders of nature. We’re so eager to return to an in-person event and will have activities in a socially distanced, safe fashion. The festival will be by advanced registration only this year. 8/7 - Fused Glass Pendant Workshop, WWAC @MarketFair, 1:30-3:30pm., Learn about the exciting art of fused glass and make 3 pendants. The class will include instruction on how to design a pendant for full fusing and tack fusing, including cutting small pieces of glass. A demonstration will show how to use a flame to shape glass stringers. Finished pieces, complete with a silver plated bail and on leather cord, will be available for pick-up in approximately 7-10 days. 8/8 – Jewish Cultural Festival, Adath Israel, 1-4pm., 1958 Lawrenceville Rd, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648. This lively, rain-or-shine, event will feature live music, delicious kosher food, door prizes, plenty of shopping, in-person demonstrations, kids’ crafts and games, and lots of schmoozing. A free door prize ticket is offered to any adult that has pre-registered for the event. Pre-register by emailing eventregistration@adathisraelnj.org. Those that make a $10 donation will be given additional door prize tickets. The Jewish Cultural Festival follows CDC Guidelines. Therefore, anyone who is vaccinated is not required to wear a mask. However, those that are not vaccinated are required to wear a mask.

8/8 – “Twelfth Night”, 6pm., Community Park North Amphitheater, Hudson Shakespeare Company presents the romantic comedy at the Community Park North Amphitheater. The show features a five-person cast and live music. In Shakespeare's comedy, twins are separated by a shipwreck, and cases of false and mistaken identity add unexpected wrinkles to more than one love story. Under the leadership of Artistic Director Jon Ciccarelli, The Hudson Shakespeare Company is known for utilizing some of the best young and experienced actors, directors and crew from around the tri-state area. 8/9 - Intro to Classical Indian & Bollywood Dance, MCLS (Virtual), 10:30am
Children, ages six and older, will learn the cultural significance of some of India's most popular dance styles - Kathak (a form of classical Indian dance) and Bollywood. Miss Sudipta will also teach children some basic dance moves in this live, virtual workshop. No previous dance experience needed. Sponsored by the Hightstown Library Association. 8/10 – Volunteer Information Session (Virtual), CASA of Mercer/Burlington Counties, 11am., CASA for Children of Mercer & Burlington Counties is a non-profit organization that recruits, trains and supervises community volunteers who speak up in Family Court for the best interests of children that have been removed from their families due to abuse and/or neglect and placed in the foster care system. 8/12 – ‘Call Me Athena – Girl from Detroit’ Book Launch Party, 6-7:30pm., Arts Council of Princeton, You’re invited to join the Arts Council of Princeton and Labyrinth Books for a Launch Party for Colby Cedar Smith’s Call Me Athena: Girl from Detroit, the novel in verse debut from the Hopewell-based author and ACP creative writing instructor. Labyrinth will be on site at the event with copies of Call Me Athena available for sale. Free registration is available here!

8/12 – Summer Night Movie @Princeton Shopping Center, 6:30pm., Summer Nights Series heats up with a viewing of RAYA and the LAST DRAGON outdoors in the courtyard. Family activities begin at 6:30pm; movie begins at approximately 8:15pm. Bring a lawn chair or blanket. All of the courtyard programming is free and open to everyone. 8/14 - Summer Concert Series: Kelly Price & Destinee Marie, Mercer County Park, 6pm., We are THRILLED to announce we will be holding a special event with 9x GRAMMY NOMINATED singer and songwriter Kelly Price at the Festival Grounds on Saturday, Aug. 14. The R&B/Soul artist has made history in her career with award-winning albums throughout the early 2000's and Grammy nominations for best R&B album, best vocal performance, best R&B song along with many more. Kelly has collaborated with Mariah Carey, George Michael, Elton John, Diddy, and Whitney Houston just to name a few. Opening for Kelly Price will be Destinee Maree an R&B Soul/Pop singer who takes her influences from Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Diana Ross and more.
Guests welcomed to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and pack coolers with sealed bottles of water. No glass bottles. Dates, times, and locations are subject to change. $5 parking fee will apply for Festival Grounds events.

8/18 – Bike Nature Tours, Pole Farm @Mercer Meadows, 9-11am., For adults & children ages 12 and up. Capacity: 10 people. Experience the beauty of Mercer Meadows while gliding along on two wheels during this naturalist-guided tour. Bring your own bike or take advantage of our bike rental program for an additional fee. 8/21 - 8th Annual Latino Festival of Hightstown, 12-6pm, 170 Bank Street, Hightstown, New Jersey. The purpose of the festival is to showcase the artistic and cultural traditions of Latinos in New Jersey and to promote intercultural awareness and understanding. RAFFLES - CRAFTS- KIDS GAMES. Bring a chair or blanket. The festival will showcase music and dance traditions of diverse Latino communities residing in our region, and will feature educational exhibitions, arts and crafts, and food sales. The event is free and open to the public, ADA accessible and free parking is available on site and at the lot for the Municipal Building. In case of rain, the event will be held on Saturday, August 28 at the same time and location.

8/21 – Wine on the Waterfront, Washington Crossing Historic Park (PA), 3-7pm., Wine on the Waterfront returns to the banks of the Delaware River in Washington Crossing Historic Park (PA) on Saturday, August 21 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. The event will feature gourmet food, live jazz music, and one-ounce tastes of wines from a number of Pennsylvania wineries. Click here for more information

8/27 - The Great Buster, Outdoor Art Films presented by the Hopewell Valley Arts Council, 8:30pm., Woolsey Park, Hopewell. Outdoor movie in celebration of Buster Keaton: The Great Buster celebrates the life and career of one of America's most influential and celebrated filmmakers and comedians, Buster Keaton, whose singular style and plentiful output during the silent era created his legacy as a true cinematic visionary. 8/28 – Historical Re-enactment of The Road to Victory at Yorktown, The William Trent House, 10-5pm., The Trent House Association hosts an all-day event on Saturday, August 28, 2021, from 10 am to 5 pm, celebrating the 240th anniversary of the Washington-Rochambeau march to victory in Yorktown. 8/31 - International Overdose Awareness Day, 6-8pm., Central Park, Lawrence Township, 100 Dave Nevius Way. International Overdose Awareness Day is a global event held one day during the last week in August each year and aims to raise awareness of overdose and reduce the stigma of a drug-related death. It also acknowledges the grief felt by families and friends remembering those who have died or had a permanent injury as a result of drug overdose. In coordination with the Mercer County Prosecutor’ s Office, The Mercer County Police Chiefs Association, Mercer Council and the Prevention Coalition of Mercer County. The evening will include guest speakers, vendor tables, a commemorative shoe display (please feel free to bring a pair of shoes worn by or symbolic of lost loved one) and a memory picture table. The evening will conclude with an interactive candlelight vigil.

Westrick Music Academy (WMA), home of Princeton Girlchoir and Princeton Boychoir, is currently enrolling youth in grades 1 and 2 for their Poco Voce Choir, which will explore new and engaging ways to build and strengthen young musicianship skills. Poco Voce class will be every Wednesday from September 29th- December 1st, 5:00pm-5:45pm. This choir for young singers is $175 for 10 sessions.
