HomeFront Announces Week of Hope January 13-20 - HomeFront will host their second annual Week of Hope, a week-long effort with a variety of special educational and volunteer opportunities that will enable people to contribute to community change in a meaningful, positive way. Guided bus tours, panel discussions on poverty and issues facing the working poor in this area. Volunteer opportunities will be available for people of all ages including tutoring or reading to children, working in the food pantry or organizing events and drives. The Hopewell Valley Chorus will introduce repertoire for the spring season at open rehearsals on January 22 and 29, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. All who love to sing are invited to participate without charge. A feature of the new repertoire will be a piece written for the chorus by West Coast composer Allen Barton, which will debuted at the May concert. Rehearsals take place in the Chorus Room at Hopewell Valley Central High School, 259 Pennington-Titusville Rd., Pennington. Seeking Good Listeners: CONTACT of Mercer County, NJ offers a 40 hour training course in Active Listening/Resources, and Crisis Intervention Skills starting on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 and running weekly on Tuesdays through April 17, 2018. There is no class on March 13. The course has two sections: Morning Training is from 9:30am-12:30pm and Evening Training is from 7-10pm. Classes are held in the office building behind the Pennington United Methodist Church, 60 S. Main Street, Pennington, NJ 08534. Fulfill a New Year's Resolution and become a Volunteer! As the new year begins, many think about ways they might help out their community. If you are interested in helping build bridges in our community, then we have an opportunity for you! Literacy New Jersey Mercer County trains volunteers to meet with adults who need to improve their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills so that they can become an integral part of Mercer County activities. In addition to helping these neighbors, you will learn about new cultures and different points of view as you work with individuals that come from many other countries. We have a long waiting list of students who need our help. Join our 15 hour, tutor training course which starts on January 11, 10:00-1:00 and continues each Thursday at the same time through February 8 (five Thursdays). 1 North Johnston Ave. Hamilton, NJ 08609. Winter/Spring 2018 Healthy Living Discussion Group Begins Feb 21 - How does one successfully navigate the vast sea of foods, supplements, health, and fitness options? The Whole Earth Center is pleased to support your wellbeing, by hosting Healthy Living Discussion Groups facilitated by Palmer Uhl CHC & Bea Snowdon MS ACN NBC-HWC. Group participants gain useful information, as healthy approaches to life are explored. A fun, enriching experience is promised to those who join in. The Lawrence Headquarters Branch Library is hosting PlayFest, its annual one-act play festival, on Saturday April 28, 2018. The Festival directors are seeking actors to fill a variety of roles in the staged readings from the selected works of local playwrights. 1/14 - The Greater Princeton Steinway Society will present a musicale featuring pianist Charl Louw, bassoonist Ryan Morris, and clarinetist Sharra Wagner.
