A prospector discovers oil under the streets of Paris and a group of businessmen plan to raze the neighborhood of Chaillot to reap the rewards. The Madwoman of Chaillot bands together with her friends and the street people of the area to bring about their downfall in a triumph of common wit over corporate greed.
Giraudoux’ comic fable inhabits a world somewhere just this side of what can only be imagined as a fabulous world in the sewers that lie beneath the city of Paris and into which Countess Aurelia tricks her enemies.
