| Dear Members and Friends:
Central Jersey Network of Black Women
celebrated its 22nd anniversary on May 18, 2003. To mark the
occasion we also honored Ondina Jeffers as " Woman of the
Year".
Congratulations again to Ondina!
The event which was held at the El Paraiso
Restaurant was a smashing success! Ondina's family, friends
and colleagues came out to pay tribute to this exceptional woman.
The recurring theme for the evening was the warmth
which Ondina has showered on those she touched. Everyone
recalled those wonderful hugs! She was praised for her work
with the East Windsor community by Mayor Janice Mironov and
Councilman Walter Daniels. She received proclamations from
Senator Shirley Turner's office and East Windsor Township.
Freeholder, Ann Cannon will deliver a proclamation soon.
Colleagues came from out of state to join many
others in New Jersey who talked about her roles and contributions to
the League of Women Voters, the Latina Women's Council of Mercer
County and the "Gran Pal" reading in schools program, to
name a few of the many organizations represented. Ondina was
resourceful, dedicated, and effective in each of her roles as wife,
mother, teacher, community activist, and friend. The highlight
of the evening was the tribute from her son, Richard, who spoke of
Ondina's guidance and encouragement throughout his life, and the
love and attention she gives to her family and grandchildren.
CJNBW also presented Ondina with the Woman of
the Year engraved crystal gift and reminisced about her
contributions to the Network. Again, we salute Ondina and her
"suave" husband, Wilfred.
Thank you members for allowing me to serve as
president of the network. I would also like to congratulate
the President- elect, Noreen and the other members of the
Steering Committee for 2003-2005.
Sincerely,
Ruth
