Dear Sisters:

 

BLACK HISTORY MONTH

 

This month is full of activities that highlight our very rich history.  Of course, we celebrate our ancestors, not just once a year, but throughout the year.  It's up to all adults to encourage our young people to be proud of our history and honor all those who paved the way for us.

 

One exercise we can follow through on is to cast our votes on primary day, "Super Tuesday", February 5.  It's so important to take this matter seriously even though some may feel their single vote does not count. Do not disappoint our ancestors.

Sat., Feb. 9 - 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.  West Windsor Human Relations Council will show a film "Voices of the Civil Rights Movement".  This is an original History

 

Channel produced documentary.  Same place as the March 1 film listed below.

 

Mon., Feb. 18 - 8:00 p.m. McCarter Theatre presents "3 Mo Divas" - Tickets $15 ea.  This is "A Celebration of Class, Sass & Style".For tickets, call (609) 258-2787 or www,mccarter.org.  Tickets are available.  There will be Opera, Broadway, Soul, etc.

 

Saturday, February 23 6:00 p.m. the Hightstown High School African American Awareness Club presents their 3rd Annual Black History Program.  There will be a fashion show, singing, dancing, spoken word, etc., followed by dinner and vendors.  Cost is $7 per person.  Contact hhsaasg@yahoo.com for more information.

NEXT LEVEL YOUTH, a Hightstown/East Windsor based community youth organization needs your support.  They have started a tutoring/mentoring program to support the children of  Hightstown /East Windsor.  They meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. at the Grace Norton Rogers School (Multi-purpose room) in Hightstown.  They are currently working with children grades 3-8.  Their focus is homework completion, and general skill building.  They bring in guest speakers and are planning a few field trips.

Steering Committee Corner --
This Committee is made up of the officers of the Network. We meet at 7:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month at the Twin Rivers Library, 276 Abbington Dr., E. Windsor, NJ., (609-443-1880). Any member can attend these meetings, if so desired.

The Book Club - "Reading Between the Lines."

The next book is "The Audacity of Hope" by Barack Obama.   The date of our discussion will be Tues., Feb. 19th - 7:30 p.m. at Ruth's.  If you plan to attend let Ruth know.

To Clean Mop - Soak the mop for several hours in a mixture of 1 quart water and 4 tbs. baking soda.  Rinse well, squeeze out and hang to dry.
