PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE:

Dear Sisters:

SPRING IS FINALLY HERE

My favorite season of the year is here and I look forward to the blooming of forsythia, azaleas and all the other beautiful spring offer-ings.  Enjoy!

We were privileged to have Ms. Gail Mitchell as out guest on 3/11.  Her quilts were gorgeous and each piece had a special story.  A few poems were read along the way.

We had a big turn out for this affair and everyone expressed their pleasure at seeing these beautiful quilts.  I must say we had a lovely evening and can't thank Ms. Mitchell enough for sharing her art works with us.

Now that spring is officially here, we must get busy planning for our Fall fund-raiser so we can have the necessary funds for scholarships for women returning to college and Hightstown High students.  It's important that we make a choice pretty quickly as to where we will hold this affair - and book the space without further delays.

The IRS requested information on our 501(c)3 and Shirley worked many hours to retrieve

information and did a  spreadsheet which was turned over to Ruth who worked tirelessly to get the forms to the IRS before the end of March.  Thank you ladies so much.

Illean and I attended a meeting on March 5 at Hightstown High of the African American Parent Support Group.  I was happy to share information about CJNBW, including our history and our present goals of giving scholarships to women returning to college and, of course, to graduating seniors at Hightstown High.  It was wonderful to meet some of the parents of students who can possibly be awarded scholarships.  I thank Ms. Carmen Down, President of the group for inviting us.

Another group, "First Level Youth" also made a presentation about their organization.  A group of young men run the program and tutor and mentor kids from grades 3 - 8th.  They meet at the Grace N. Rogers middle school in Hightstown on Tues. and Thurs. See their website kjackson@nextlevelyouth.us.  Volunteers are welcomed.

The best to you.

Joyce
