NEWSLETTER
March, 2003
President's Message
Dear Members and Friends:

It is with a great deal of pleasure and joy that I write this newsletter for March 2003.  As many of you know, I survived emergency surgery a few weeks ago and I am grateful to be here.  My sincere thanks for all your visits, cards, calls and gifts of beautiful flowers.  But most of all thanks for your prayers and encouragement.  Your support really sustained me and pulled me through this difficult period.  As I have remarked to many, the network serves a great purpose in the community by gathering us into one family.

From all accounts, the celebration of Black History Month at the February meeting was a big success!  Thanks to the Steering Committee members and especially Illean Fussell, for making it a special evening.

As a reminder, the speaker for the CJNBW’s March 11th meeting is Ms. Betty Savage, LCSW from Capital Health System, who will be speaking on Mental Health for Women’s Well Being.  Take it from me, you can’t hear enough on this subject, so bring your family and friends and join us to get the latest scoop on how to stay fit mentally!

Sincerely,

Ruth Rainford Timins

CLOTHING COLLECTION

We will be collecting clothing (in good condition and clean, for working women) for the Urban Women's Center, 1201 W. State St., Trenton ( contact Dir., Doris Williams (609) 989-1925) and Dress for Success, (also known as Suitably Dressed), 640 S. Broad St., Trenton (contact Mary - 989-6639 - from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.; Mon - Fri).  These organizations assist women who are returning to work and do not have the proper attire for work.  They also need shoes and handbags.  Thank you for your help in this matter.  Your donations will be greatly appreciated. If you have large donations, it would be best to contact these agencies and arrange for drop off and to find out if they have the space for large donations. They can use suits for men, also.

WOMEN'S HEALTH 2003 DAYBOOK (published by the U.S. Dept. of Health & Human Services) can be obtained "free" by calling 1 (800) 994-9662.  When prompted, press 2.  You will speak to someone and provide your name, address and daytime phone number.  It is a very informative book that covers health topics that affect women, along with various medical hot line phone numbers and websites and is also a day planner.

BEST WISHES & CONTINUED Good Health TO:    Arlene Banks, Hattie Blanchard, Ruth Timins daughter, Nicole, and the mothers of Marcia Duhart and Lorna Jones, and Illean Fussell's brother, Bill.

We wish continued speedy recovery to our President, Ruth, who is feeling better each day.  She is appreciative of all the visits, phone calls, flowers, cards and, of course, prayers. These are the times when we really appreciate the sisterhood of CJNBW.

It is our intention to remember all who are ill, lost a loved one or congratulate members and their families when achievements are made.  However, you must let Joyce Abbott (448-4511) know so mention can be made in the Newsletter.

TIPS

Keeping Flowers Fresh - Pour a quart or so of room temperature water into your vase, then add a preservative to the water.  If you didn't get one from the florist, try a tiny bit of baking soda.  Or, add a tablespoon of corn syrup and a teaspoon of chlorine bleach to a quart of water and mix well.
