News01/05/2006: Choosing a Caterer That's Right For You When choosing a caterer for your wedding, there are so many options, it can often be terribly overwhelming. The type of food, whether inside or out, an informal picnic for fifty or a sit-down dinner for two hundred…..all very important details. The most important thing about your wedding ...is that it is YOURS!! It should reflect your style and personal touches. The atmosphere, the food, the music, it all should be inspired by the things you, and your partner, love.  Even your cake should be an extension of your style. This “crooked cake” was inspired by the bride’s love of color and the groom’s interest in architecture.
When choosing a caterer, ask lots of questions. You don’t want any surprises on your big day. All of the details should be explained and gone over, so that you and the caterer are on the same page as to what you expect. Think about your menu before you go and speak with the caterer. If you have Champagne and Caviar on your mind, -vs- Country BBQ ideas, you’ll save quite a bit of time and the caterer will have a better idea of your preferences right from the start. This will make it easier for the caterer to help you design a menu that is appropriate for your specific tastes. When you first meet a caterer, or are considering one, there are some questions that you should ask automatically:
Ask questions about “full-service”. Some caterers only provide food for events, but others will supply not only the food and service staff, but also the equipment & tent rentals, the glassware and even the liquor that is served. In addition, if they have been in business for many years….they are a great resource for florists, musicians and almost every other business having to do with a wedding.
