Volunteer at PLC
The teens at Princeton Learning Cooperative are always looking for interesting, dedicated people willing to share their knowledge and skills. Generally a one-hour-a-week commitment, PLC volunteers tutor one-on-one, lead small-group classes, or offer a one-time workshop on various topics. 8/4 – Fun on the Farm @Cherry Grove Farm, 2-5pm., An afternoon of fun for the kids and relaxation for the grown-ups at Cherry Grove Farm. We'll have hay rides, storytelling, author book signing, ice-cream, yoga, wild plant walks, cheese tastings and of course our store items as well as lots of fresh veggies, fruits and flowers. 8/5 – Annual Butterfly Festival @The Watershed, 10-5pm., Join us at our 23rd annual Watershed Butterfly Festival – an in-person celebration of family fun to share the joys and wonders of nature. The event will feature tours of the Kate Gorrie Butterfly House and the Insect Zoo. Enjoy music and live entertainment throughout the day, including animal shows featuring Eyes of the Wild and Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge. Young children will delight in being a part of the famous “Butterfly and Bug Parade” led by Lady Monarch, Ms. Allison. Please note that dogs are not permitted at the Butterfly Festival. Sign up for one of three available two-hour sessions, 10:00 a.m.-12 noon, 12:30-2:30 p.m., and 3:00-5:00 p.m. Registration is strongly recommended, yet walk-ins are welcome! Price: $10 per person or $25 per carload (up to six people). Parking will be on-site at the Watershed Center.

8/5 – Revolutionary War Reenactment, Washington Crossing Park, NJ, 10-4pm., Outwater’s Militia (A reenactment group, portraying a Revolutionary War militia unit) will be encamped at Washington Crossing State Park, New Jersey. Come and see the men of Outwater’s Militia join together and drill in preparation for action against his majesty’s troops. Stroll through the encampment when the men are not drilling and learn about the life and times of the Revolutionary War. For more information call (609) 737-0623.

8/5 & 8/6 – Just Peachy Festival @Terhune’s, 10-5pm., Celebrate Jersey Fresh and one of our state’s favorite fruits by joining us for our annual Just Peachy Festival. Kids (and kids of all ages) will enjoy fun all around the farm. Take a pony ride around our pasture. Have fun with games and barnyard tractors, Little Tikes Farm Store & Junior Mechanics Shop, rubber duck races, and other interactive, hands-on fun including a scavenger hunt. Enjoy live music each day noon-4pm. Admission to the festival area is $15 In Advance/$18 Day Of (age 3 and up).

8/8 – Information Session, Princeton YMCA Young Achiever’s Program, 6pm., Princeton Branch YMCA is holding an information session to help register families for Princeton Young Achiever's afterschool program. Additionally, Princeton YMCA is looking to recruit staff and volunteers for Youth Development programs and share other programming happening at the Princeton YMCA. This event is in collaboration with our community partner, Princeton Community Housing, a shared space to run our programming in the neighborhood.

8/10 – HVAC’S Opening Reception for Radius 14: Celebrating Our Local Artist, 5:30 - 7:30pm., Please join the HV Arts Council and meet the artists for the opening reception for Radius 14: Celebrating Our Local Artist on Thursday, August 10 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The exhibition is for two weeks only, with works by artists within a 14 mile radius of Hopewell Valley. The exhibition is part of Seward Johnson | Celebrating the Everyday, our year-long tribute to the amazing life of Seward Johnson and his guiding influence over the art community in Hopewell Valley. 8/10 – Evening Yoga in the Garden, Morven Museum & Garden, 6pm., Relax with an evening yoga practice in Morven's historic gardens led by Gemma Farrell at Gratitude Yoga, whose mission is to foster compassionate community by infusing the practice of yoga and meditation with a spirit of loving kindness. 8/11 – Dancing Under The Stars, Hinds Plaza, 7pm., Members of Central Jersey Dance demonstrate basic steps and lead others in an evening of dancing to recorded music of all kinds on Hinds Plaza, weather permitting; or Community Room if raining.

8/12 – Saturday Walk on The Lawrence Hopewell Trail, 9:30am., Walk along a section the developing 22-mile Lawrence Hopewell Trail on the second Saturday of every month. Location varies; 9:30 a.m. start. Free. More details on lhtrail.org/walkingclub/.

8/13 – History Talk - Trenton Eyewitnesses to Revolution, 2pm., The Trent House Association presents a talk by William (Larry) Kidder profiling Trenton residents during the Revolutionary War and their responses to the long conflict on their doorstep. The talk will be in the Trent House Visitor Center at 15 Market Street, Trenton, across from the Hughes Justice Complex. This is a free program, but pre-registration is encouraged at williamtrenthouse.org/upcoming-events.html. Plenty of free parking is available at the rear of the Museum property.

8/13 – Music at the Library: Putnam County, 4-5pm., Hinds Plaza - The band performs rock and blues songs from the 1960s through the 1980s at this concert on Hinds Plaza. Part of the Summer 2023 Listen Local Series.

8/16 – PET CPR & First Aid, 6-8:30pm., Community Wellness, 731 Alexander Road, Princeton. $25 per person. Click here to register. Learn how to give immediate care to an injured or suddenly ill pet until veterinary care is available. Includes basic emergency care, CPR, common illnesses, and medical emergencies. This program focuses on first aid for dogs; however, first aid applications for most pets are similar. Participants will receive a course completion certificate.

8/17 – Music on the Patio, PSRC, 3:30pm., Join us for the final Music on the Patio of the Summer 2023 season. Featuring Jessica Ehee, a student at Princeton High School, who has been studying music for eleven years and has performed extensively as a pianist and vocalist. She is a co-founder of Princeton Music Outreach (musicoutreach.org), an organization that performs monthly at local assisted living facilities. 8/19 - Hidden Gardens of Hopewell Valley: 2023 Garden Tour, 10-3pm., Come to the Hopewell Public Library to pick up your ticket, then head to 8 stunning locations throughout Hopewell Valley. Tour 4 gardens in Hopewell Borough, 1 in Pennington, and 3 in Titusville. This year, many of these fabulous gardens focus on native plants, and one location in Titusville has recently been awarded a historical plaque by the Hopewell Valley Historical Society! 8/25 - We All Scream for Ice Cream, a Storytelling Event, WWAC, 7-9pm., Join us to share your true story about the thrill and sweet chills of summer at this ice cream themed event. All storytellers will get 5-7 minutes on the mic to share their truth in a safe space for all, and audience favorites will get special prizes!
Registration for this event is $20 in advance, or $25 at the door.
