July is National Park and Recreation Month! 
Did you know that entrance to all NJ state parks, forests and recreation areas are free all summer? Fees will be waived for all visitors, regardless of whether they live in New Jersey. The initiative, announced by Governor Phil Murphy in May, “promotes access to green, open space; thriving waterways; and the many natural wonders that make us proud to call New Jersey our home.” The New Jersey State Park System, comprised of more than 50 sites and 453,000 acres, draws millions of visitors each year, according to the governor’s office. Find a list of parks here.

COVID-19 vaccine now available for young children - Vaccination against COVID-19 is now available for everyone 6 months and older. The FDA and CDC have authorized the use of smaller, pediatric doses of both Pfizer (under age 5) and Moderna (under age 6) in children at least 6 months of age. Butterfly House Tours @The Watershed July 7 – Aug 18
Join us for a guided tour of the Kate Gorrie Butterfly House to view and learn about local butterfly species. If time and weather allow, we will try catching wild butterflies in the field. You are welcome to bring your camera. Advance registration is required. The Kate Gorrie Butterfly House is handicap-accessible and open daily from dawn until dusk (mid-June through mid-September) except during a scheduled program or tour. You just need desire to help a child, a valid driver's license, be at least 21 years old, clear a background check, basic computer skills and the ability to communicate orally and in writing. Princeton Human Services Department is seeking donors for its 13th Annual Backpack and School Supplies Drive. The drive benefits Princeton children who are low-income and in need of school supplies and new backpacks.
The items are distributed to children from low-income families who attend the Princeton Public Schools and are entering kindergarten through sixth grade. Drop off donations at the Princeton Human Services office on weekdays between 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The office is located at One Monument Drive. The deadline for donations is Friday, August 5. Items that can be donated include book bags, notebooks, binders, folders, loose leaf paper, pencils, pens, crayons, markers, scissors, glue sticks, and other school supplies. The Arts Council of Princeton Now Accepting Vendor Applications for annual Sauce for the Goose Outdoor Art Market. Artists and crafters are encouraged to apply to sell their wares at this pop-up market, now in its 29th year, on Saturday, November 12, 2022. The market will run from 11am to 4pm and will feature a myriad of creative vendors offering high-quality, handmade works in anticipation of the holiday season. 2022 Summer Reading Program at Hopewell Public Library June 22 – August 31
Prepare to dive into an Ocean of Possibilities! The annual Summer Reading Program is now underway. Adults may register both their children and themselves either in-person at Hopewell Public Library or online at www.redlibrary.org. Upon registering, summer readers should set their reading goal for how many books they want to read or have read to them this summer. To register for the Summer Reading Program, please use the online registration form. 7/7 – Grace Little Band, Princeton Shopping Center, 6-8pm., The band kicks off a summer concert series at the Princeton Shopping Center. Grace Little has wowed audiences with her powerful R&B and gospel vocals since she won the adult category of the famous Apollo Theater talent competition at the age of 12. After that, she joined the national touring companies of "Dreamgirls," "Oh! Calcutta!" and "The Wiz." This dynamic group is comprised of 8 very talented musicians: two lead vocalists, a full rhythm section, and a sax player. Get ready for a high energy evening of classic hits from the Grace Little Band. Bring a lawn chair or blanket. In the event of rain, events will be rescheduled.

7/7 – Outdoor Screening – “Singing in the Rain”, 8pm., Location: Alexander Beach on PU campus. This classic film is a spoof of the turmoil that afflicted the movie industry in the late 1920s, when movies went from silent to sound. When two silent movie stars' latest movie is made into a musical, a chorus girl is brought in to dub Lina Lamont's speaking and singing. Don Lockwood is on top of the world until Lina finds out. Rain date: Tuesday, July 12, in Butler Amphitheater.

7/8 Telling Stories about Oceans of Possibilities, Princeton Public Library, 6pm., Pettoranello Gardens, Community Park North, Princeton. Members of the NJ Storytelling Network present stories that reflect the theme of this year's Summer Reading programs. Stories will include: "Tiddalik the Frog," "Coyote and the Sea Witch," "Pourquoi Bug Story," "How Raven Made the Tides," "The Adventures of Harriet the Horseshoe Crab" and "A Wish from a Fish," among others. If the weather is inclement on the day of this program, it will be held in the Community Room at the library at 6 p.m., and the website will be updated by 4 p.m.

7/9 & 7/10 – Annual Blueberry Bash, Terhune’s, 10-5pm., Take a stroll around the farm including a visit to our 2-acre Pick-Your-Own blueberry patch (picking is as supplies last and not included in admission). 7/9 - History Talk: The First Historian of the Revolutionary War: François-Jean de Chastellux, 2pm., As part of Trenton’s Liberty Weekend (July 8-10, 2022), the Trent House Association presents a talk by Dr. Iris de Rode on research by the Marquis de Chastellux as the Continental and French armies prepared for their march through New Jersey to the battle of Yorktown in 1781. 7/9 - Lawrence Hopewell Trail Full Moon Bike Ride, 8-10:30pm., The LHT Full Moon Ride is an Out of this World experience that will provide people of all ages with an evening of outdoor fun, culminating in the ride through the park for those 12 and older. Participants can bring a picnic dinner to enjoy before the ride. The Full Moon Bike Ride will be held in Mercer Meadows beginning at Rosedale Lake. Use the entrance to the park on Federal City Road, between Blackwell Road and Old Mill Road in Pennington, New Jersey.
The Full Moon Bike Ride loop is approximately 6 miles. Personal bike decorating is encouraged, and limited glow sticks will be provided to light up your bikes! This is a ride for ages 12 and up. Children must be accompanied by adults. Helmets are required for riders under 18 but are highly encouraged for all. 7/15 – Dance Night: Epic Soul @Mercder County Park, 6pm., Epic Soul features some of the top musicians in the Northeast who perform over 100 dates a year together. This dedicated group, featuring members of the Chops Horns, offers a truly unique dance party experience, utilizing state of the art technology at every performance. Their three lead singers are wireless so that they can be out on the dance floor and make everyone feel like they are part of the party. Guests welcomed to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and sealed bottles of water. Outside food and alcohol, coolers, and glass bottles are PROHIBITED. Dates, times, and locations are subject to change. 7/15 – ACP’S Story & Verse, Pettoranello Gardens, 7pm., Story & Verse welcomes local and regional talent to perform original works inspired by a monthly theme, providing attendees with free, community-created entertainment. The Summer Series marks the return to Pettoranello Gardens, welcoming one and all to enjoy live performance by our talented community members in a beautiful outdoor setting. 7/16 – Fairy Festival @The Watershed, 10am – 11am and 11:30am – 12:30pm., Fairies and friends gather together for some magical activities at The Watershed Institute. We will build fairy cottages using natural materials, and search for hidden fairies using a scavenger hunt map. We will also create fun crafts, splash together as we play mermaid games, flutter around an obstacle course and more! Come dressed as a fairy or other mythical creature. Ages 2 and up. 7/16 - Songs and Stories of the American Revolution - Performed by Matthew Dodd, 2pm., Dressed in colonial clothing and performing rousing period songs and stories, Matthew Dodd will take you back in time to the days of the American Revolution. Mr. Dodd sings and plays the guitar, banjo, mandolin and recorder throughout the show. The outdoor performance will take place at Sullivan’s Grove next to the Visitor Center Museum at Washington Crossing State Park in Titusville, New Jersey. Sullivan’s Grove can be reached from I-95 by taking the Trenton/Lambertville Exit (this is the first exit in N.J. heading north and the last exit heading south). Head north on Route 29 for 2 ½ miles and turn right at the first traffic light. Park Entrance will be on your left in a ½ mile. Enter the park and follow the signs to the Visitor Center Museum. 7/16 - Eddie Palmieri Salsa Orchestra, Pettoranello Gardens Amphitheater, 7:30pm., FREE. Known as one of the finest pianists of the past 60 years, ten-time Grammy Award-winning Eddie Palmieri is an arranger and composer with a unique, personal, richly complex, and infectious take on salsa and Latin jazz. Named an NEA Jazz Master in 2013, he skillfully fuses the rhythm of his Puerto Rican heritage with the complexity of his jazz influences: Thelonious Monk, Herbie Hancock, and McCoy Tyner. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, and blankets. Pettoranello Gardens is located in Community Park North, Princeton (Route 206 and Mountain Avenue). In case of rain or extreme heat, the show will move to PHS Performing Arts Center at Franklin Ave. & Walnut Lane, Princeton. Additional concert – 7/30 - The Ali Ryerson/Pete Levin Quintet.

7/17 – HiTOPS LGBTQ+ Summer Splash, 11-5pm., Being LGBTQ+ sometimes means it is hard to find places to enjoy the summer sun that feel safe and affirming. That's why HiTOPS is hosting our LGBTQ+ Summer Splash! We are holding a FREE private pool party that includes plenty of food and activities for everyone. Swimming is not required, so guests can feel free to stay dry and enjoy some games and crafts instead.
Those attending will meet at HiTOPS in Princeton, NJ where buses will transport everyone to and from the party location. To ensure the safety and comfort of guests, this event is limited to LGBTQ+ youth ages 11-18. 7/21 – Musical Evening with the Ragtime Relics, 6:30pm, Morven Museum & Gardens, The Ragtime Relics perform vintage American music that spans several genres and decades including ragtime, pre-war blues, jazz age, early country, swing era, bluegrass even early rock & roll. The group features some of America’s most memorable songs from the early 20th Century which might have been played and heard by Morven's residents and visitors. 7/23 – Sourland Mountain Fest, 3-8:30pm., The 17th annual Sourland Mountain Fest Presented by Unionville Vineyards and benefitting the Sourland Conservancy, returns on Saturday, July 23nd, from 3:00 – 8:30pm, rain or shine, at the beautiful Unionville Vineyards in East Amwell Township, NJ. 7/28 – Annual Picnic and Family Movie Night, Princeton Art Museum – Fantasia, 6pm., Celebrate summer with the Museum at our annual picnic on the lawn. Enjoy barbecue fare, live music, and family-friendly activities. Cosponsored by the Princeton YMCA. Stay until sunset for family movie night featuring Disney’s Fantasia. Released in 1940, it represented Walt Disney's boldest experiment to date, bringing to life his vision of blending animated imagery with classical music. What had begun as a vehicle to enhance Mickey Mouse's career blossomed into a full-blown feature that remains unique in the history of animation. Be sure to bring a blanket or chair—we'll provide the popcorn! In the event of rain, the picnic will be held in Frist Campus Center Multipurpose Rooms and the film will be shown on Tuesday, August 2, on Alexander Beach.

7/30 & 31 – Mercer County 4-H Fair, Howell Living History Farm, 10-8pm (Saturday), 10-4pm (Sunday) The fair includes animal shows and exhibits, homemade ice cream, hay rides, pony rides, music, magic shows and farm tours, as well as displays by the Rutgers Master Gardeners of Mercer County, Mercer County Wildlife Center Friends, Mid-State Beekeepers Association and many more. 7/31 – Shakespeare in Community Park, 6-8pm., The Hudson Shakespeare Company presents Shakespeare in the Park at the Community Park North Amphitheater. Under the leadership of Artistic Director Jon Ciccarelli, The Hudson Shakespeare Company is known for utilizing some of the best young and experienced actors, directors and crew from around the tri-state area. Join us for a rockin' summer party of the sixties with "Much Ado About Nothing" where revenge is put aside in favor of forgiveness.
