17th Annual Virtual Firecracker 5K June 1-15
Join YWCA Princeton and ETS for the 17th Annual Firecracker 5K, which will be held virtually from June 1-15, 2022. Participants can walk, run, or roll at their own pace throughout the two-week event. All proceeds support the YWCA's mission of eliminating racism and empowering women and will help keep their mission-based programs accessible to community members in need. There is a $50 registration fee, and participants are encouraged to fundraise at least $50 for a total contribution of $100. T-shirts will be available for pick-up, and prizes will be awarded to participants with the fastest race time, furthest distance recorded, and highest amount raised.  www.ywcaprinceton.org/homepage/signature-events/5k/

Park Commission Opens Hopewell Valley Golf Course
The Mercer County Park Commission celebrates the grand opening of the Hopewell Valley Golf Course, a newly acquired property of the Park Commission. This 186-acre, 18-hole course includes a clubhouse, ballroom, three Har-Tru tennis courts, three platform tennis courts and a pool. The facility is now fully operational and open to the public and provides new amenities for residents of the County and beyond. Hopewell Valley Golf Club is located on Pennington-Hopewell Road in Hopewell Township. The tennis courts and pool are open from Memorial Day to Labor Day and the golf course and club house are open year-round, course conditions weather permitting. Submissions Wanted : Princeton Student Film Festival
Filmmakers ages 14-25 are invited to submit short films for consideration for screening at the 2022 Princeton Student Film Festival. Entries should be no more than 20 minutes long and must be submitted by June 17. There is no fee to enter. Films selected as part of the festival will be shown in the library’s Community Room on Aug. 3 and streamed on the Eventive platform for a limited time on dates to be determined. All entries must be submitted by completing the entry form available at princetonlibrary.org/psff. Digital downloads of selected films will be required. Volunteer Stewardship Sessions with FOPOS
Join us in the great outdoors for an upcoming volunteer session with the Friends of Princeton Open Space (FOPOS). Volunteers will work under the guidance of FOPOS' stewardship staff to assist in restoration and trail projects located at the beautiful Billy Johnson Mountain Lakes Nature Preserve. Tasks include invasive plant removal, installation of deer-exclusion caging, native plantings, and more! Free State Park Admission All Summer Long
Entry to all New Jersey State Parks, forests, and recreation areas will be free of charge this summer. Park entrance fees will be waived for all visitors, regardless of residency. Anyone who already purchased a 2022 annual State Park Pass will automatically receive a full refund. Other individual park fees remain in place, such as camping, interpretive programs, and mobile sport fishing permits. Discover NJ State Parks: www.state.nj.us

Local Churches Share June Program
Five churches will partner to offer “Compassion Camp,” a free Community Vacation Bible School for all ages from June 27 to 30, 5:30 to 8 p.m, at Mt. Pisgah AME Church, 172 Witherspoon Street. Joining Mt. Pisgah for the second year of this ecumenical summer program will be volunteers from Trinity Episcopal Church, Witherspoon Street Presbyterian Church, Princeton United Methodist Church, and Kingston United Methodist Church. In 2021 this multi-church Compassion Camp was held outdoors on the grounds of Trinity Episcopal Church. After families had supper together, 70 children and adults explored what it means to have compassion for others, ourselves, and the world.

Business Survival Series Begins June 8
Four free in-person workshops presented by Mercer County and the UCEDC to help Mercer businesses rebound and thrive.

Morven Museum & Garden

The NJ Motor Vehicle Commission mobile units will be hosting a series of events in Princeton and Hillsborough this summer - all running from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. The dates and locations are as follows: Hillsborough at 530 Willow Road: June 6, July 27, October 6; and Princeton at One Monument Drive: June 24, September 26. 6/5 – Fiona Tyndall & Friends – Listen Local Series, Hinds Plaza, 4pm., In a concert called "From Clare to Here" Fiona Tyndall, Ben Steinfeld and guest artists will perform traditional Celtic songs and some well known cover songs from both sides of the Atlantic. Fiona Tyndall is a recording artist and vocalist focused on traditional language culture and song. Ben Steinfeld is an actor, director, writer, musician, and adjunct professor and artistic associate at NYU-Gallatin. In the event of rain, the concert will move inside to the Community Room.

6/5 - Season Finale, "A Concerto Extravaganza!", Bravura Philharmonic Orchestra, 7pm, Princeton Alliance Church, 20 Schalks Crossing Road, Plainsboro, NJ, 08536, at the intersection with Scudders Mill Road. The concert will be conducted by its director, Chiu-Tze Lin. It will feature the winners of the 2022 Young Artists Competition, sponsored by the Bravura Philharmonic Orchestra. They are pianists Yidi Ding and Christopher Shin, cellist Evelyn Joung, and violinist Joshua Song. General admission prices are $20 and $18 for seniors and students. 6/10 – Flamenco Dance Showcase, ACP, 7pm., Enjoy a live Flamenco performance featuring Lisa Botalico and ACP Adult Flamenco Students! This celebration of Flamenco was directed and choreographed by Botalico, Assistant Director/Principal Dancer/Choreographer of Alborada Spanish Dance Theatre. Lisa toured the United States as Artistic Director and Principal dancer of La Compañía Folklorica Latina for the National Theatre of the Performing Arts. 6/11 - Horseshoe Bend East Preserve Tour, Hunterdon Land Trust, 9am., Hunterdon Land Trust invites you to take a guided tour of the Horseshoe Bend East Preserve in Kingwood Township and discover its intriguing history, while enjoying its woodlands and the picturesque Copper Creek. Explore a slice of this preserve's natural beauty, which is part of approximately 800 acres of protected land near the Delaware River. You'll learn about native plants, wildlife and this area's vital waterways. HLT Land Steward Emily Dunn and Outreach Director Dave Harding will lead the program. 6/11 – Mill Hill Garden Tour, 12-5pm., Residents of Trenton’s Historic Mill Hill Neighborhood will open their unique gardens, big and small, to any and all visitors, garden lovers, and architecture buffs. About 15 gardens and public spaces will be open. Come take a look behind the house facades to see the private sanctuaries and public spaces of the neighborhood, including several gardens that are new this year! 6/12 – Ice Cream Social, Trenton City Museum @Ellarslie, 2-5pm., Trenton City Museum at Ellarslie will serve up Sundaes on the Veranda Sunday, June 12, from 2 to 5 p.m. In addition to all the classic toppings at this family-friendly ice cream social, attendees can choose a unique, artisan-made ceramic bowl to take home. Admission to Sundaes on the Veranda is $6 for children aged 6 and under; $10; or $20 for a sundae in a handmade ceramic bowl. 6/12 – Outdoor Performance – “Among Trees II”, 4pm., Herrontown Woods/Veblen House - "Among Trees" returns for the second year and will again include an eclectic mix of sound and words that will connect the audience to nature. Professional actors will read a variety of poetry and writings about nature, many contributed by community members. The readings will be interspersed with musical performances. 6/18 – Princeton Festival Poetry Workshop, 12:30pm., The Princeton Symphony Orchestra (PSO) invites poets of all ages to be a part of a free poetry workshop to be held Saturday, June 18 at 12:30pm during the 2022 Princeton Festival. Guest poet Nicole Homer will lead the "Just Poetry" workshop and talk about how what we see onstage can move us to be creative. This year's prompt invites poets to take inspiration from themes found in Derrick Wang's opera Scalia/Ginsburg. The poetry will explore what it means to be a feminist, the concept of dissent, and how to forge unlikely friendships in difficult times. Participants can bring their original poetry and receive first-hand feedback in this guided masterclass. They will also have the opportunity to read their poetry aloud afterwards at a 3pm "Just Poetry" reading. Both events are free and open to the public. 6/23 – What the World Need Now: More Empathy – Virtual Workshop, 7pm., Lynne Azarchi, Executive Director of Kidsbridge Youth Center, will lead this webinar designed for Parents, Caregivers, and Educators about how to nurture empathy in children. She will be joined by Danielle Yansick, Kidsbridge Education Director, who will show how empathy and mental health are related. She will share ways for both children and adults to better regulate their emotions and find joy through the use of calming techniques, simple movements, and ideas for self-care. 6/25 – Vintage Baseball Game, Historical Society of Princeton @Greenway Meadows Park, 11-1pm., Experience the history of America’s favorite pastime at our annual event for the whole family!
