May is Asian American and Native Hawaiian / Pacific Islander Heritage Month. This month offers an opportunity to explore the stories and perspectives of Asian and Native Hawaiian / Pacific Islander Americans (AANHPI). The Princeton Public Library aims to include such topics in programming and content throughout the year, and this month serves as a chance to focus our efforts. The New York to Philadelphia Greenway Ride is looking for some friendly and helpful Princeton area individuals to volunteer at the YMCA Princeton, the overnight location for this year’s May 14-15 ride. Riders will arrive in Princeton and head to the YMCA to collect their gear for the night. Some riders will camp at the YMCA while others will be staying in local area hotels. Princeton Nursery School is looking for middle and high school students who want to make a positive impact in their community! Greater Princeton Youth Orchestra Auditions - Be a part of the Greater Princeton Youth Orchestra's 2022-2023 Season. Monday evening rehearsals begin September 12, 2022 at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Princeton.

Submit audition videos by June 3. Audition fee: $25

Employers Sought for Summer Youth Jobs Connection 
Employers: Help build Mercer County’s future workforce at no cost to you. Mercer’s One-Stop Career Center is looking for employers to take part in its Summer Youth Jobs Connection program that provides paid internships and work readiness training to teens and young adults in Mercer County.The program, which runs from July 6 to Aug. 26, is being funded by a grant from the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development and coordinated by the Mercer One-Stop. It will benefit more than 100 youth ages 16 to 24 with summer employment meant to encourage a successful transition to the workforce. Priority is given to those who are economically disadvantaged or have barriers to employment; however, the program is open to all. Bag up, Mercer! Beginning May 4, the New Jersey Plastic Pollution Reduction Act will prohibit retail stores, food service businesses and grocery stores from selling or providing their customers with single-use plastic carryout bags and polystyrene foam food service products. Single-use paper carryout bags are allowed to be provided or sold, except by grocery stores equal to or larger than 2,500 square feet, which may only provide or sell reusable carryout bags. Would you or someone you know like to spend the summer working with HomeFront to help local children and families change the trajectory of their lives? HomeFront is recruiting for several AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associate positions that will:
· Create the summer of a lifetime for at‐risk children with our summer children's activities.
· Support families facing homelessness with our shelter and housing programs.
· Help families access food, clothing, and housewares through food pantries and support programs.
Summer Associates will serve weekdays June 6 – August 12, 2022; Summer Children's Program Associates will serve weekdays June 13 – August 19, 2022. Princeton Health Department will be giving out free at-home COVID-19 test kits to Princeton residents. Residents can pick up 5 test kits per household from the health department office located at 1 Monument Drive, Monday to Friday, from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Individuals looking to schedule a pickup time outside of the scheduled window may email healthdepartment@princetonnj.gov. The Health Dept. also reminds residents to check the expiration date on their at-home test kits before use and to be sure test kits are stored at the temperatures marked on the packaging.

5/5 – An Evening of Art & Music, Ewing Arts Commission, 6-8pm., The Ewing Arts Commission will interview artists and performers from this month Featured Artist program. EAC Chairperson, Mel Antler will tour the work of The Arc Mercer at the Ewing Township Municipal Building and speak with some of the artists. In addition performers from the Central Jersey Performing Arts Academy will also talk about their upcoming performance later in May. Part of this event will be live-streamed on our YouTube channel & some of the evenings activities can only be enjoyed in person. Stop in to meet the artists and performers and participate in karaoke! 5/7 – Opening Day, West Windsor Farmer Market, 9-1pm., It’s all about local food and seasonality at the West Windsor Farmers Market! This year’s season kicks off on May 7th and running every Saturday from 9:00am-1:00pm, the market will be filled with local farmers and artisan food producers, including a knife sharpener, all from within fifty miles of West Windsor to celebrate the bounty of New Jersey. 5/8 – Bird Walk on the D&R Canal, 8am., As thousands of birds wing north in their annual migration, the volunteer support group for the Delaware and Raritan Canal, the D&R Canal Watch, will sponsor a walk 8a.m. Sunday, May 8, to see and hear some of them.The free walk will be led by veteran birders and Canal Watch members Barbara and George Dawson. The walk will start at the historic Van Wickle House off Easton Avenue at the foot of DeMott Lane in Franklin Township (1289 Easton Ave., Somerset, for GPS location). No registration is necessary. 5/8 – Annual Trenton Kennel Club Dog Show, Mercer Park, 8:30am. The Trenton Kennel Club returns to Mercer County Park for their annual dog show. 5/8 – Sunday Poetry Reading, Princeton Makes, 4:00 pm. The readings will take place at the Princeton Makes store in the Princeton Shopping Center. The May 8 reading will feature Rachel Hadas and Kevin O’Shaughnessy. Their readings will be followed by an open mic available to up to 10 audience members who would like to read their original poetry. Poems reflecting Mothers’ Day are encouraged. 5/10 – Gardening for Butterflies & Historic Stroll, Morven Museum & Garden, 6:30pm.,Would you like more butterflies in your backyard garden? Learn tips to make your yard a butterfly haven with Morven's Horticulturist Louise Senior! This informative and entertaining lecture and discussion will include plant recommendations, butterfly lifecycle details, and more. Plan to spend time strolling Morven's historic gardens in the hour prior to the program. Doors to the Stockton Education Center adjacent to the museum will open at 6:00 p.m.

5/11 - Youth Perspectives: The Value of Autonomy in Education, Princeton Learning Cooperative, 7pm., Hear directly from teens and young adults who left conventional schooling behind. They'll share why school didn't work and how they're creating meaningful lives for themselves. When teenagers have the support of caring, knowledgeable mentors and the flexibility to manage their own education, many new paths to success open up to them. 5/14 - H20 Quest: Alien Invaders, The Watershed Institute
Start times every 15 minutes from 10- Noon
All of the scientists have left the lab. They left a mysterious message claiming aliens are taking over the Watershed Reserve. We need children to help track down the scientists and see if there are really aliens taking over! With map in hand you’ll make your way around the Watershed Reserve in search of clues to help solve a mystery. This program is part treasure hunt, part nature hike and plenty of imaginative fun. Meet climatologists, foresters, and a host of characters as you try to solve the puzzle in this adventure. Each family will remain together, practicing social distancing. Ages 4 and up, preregistration and adult attendance required. Dress for the weather of the day, with sturdy shoes for walking.

5/14 - ACP Bowls Project, Arts Council of Princeton, 11-4pm., Shop this outdoor sale for one-of-a-kind bowls, each handmade with love! Artists in the ACP Ceramic Studio have created hundreds of unique ceramic bowls. Bowls are first-come, first-served as supplies last. Each hand-crafted bowl is available for a $30 donation at our outdoor sale, and the first 50 buyers will receive a free scoop of ice cream from The Bent Spoon! Proceeds allow the Arts Council to continue important outreach programs and community art initiatives. 5/15 – Great Strides Walk for Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 11am., Great Strides, an annual walk happening around the country, which supports the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, is taking place on Sunday, May 15 at 11:00am at Montgomery Veterans Park on Harlingen Road in Montgomery. 5/17 - What the World Needs Now: More Empathy, 7pm
Lynne Azarchi, Executive Director of Kidsbridge Youth Center, will lead this webinar designed for Parents, Caregivers, and Educators about how to nurture empathy in children. She will be joined by Danielle Yansick, Kidsbridge Education Director, who will show how empathy and mental health are related. She will share ways for both children and adults to better regulate their emotions and find joy through the use of calming techniques, simple movements, and ideas for self-care. Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for Children of Mercer & Burlington Counties is currently seeking new volunteers! CASA for Children of Mercer & Burlington Counties is a non-profit organization that recruits, trains and supervises community volunteers who speak up in Family Court for the best interests of children that have been removed from their families due to abuse and/or neglect and placed in the foster care system. On Thursday, May 26, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the CURE Insurance Arena in Trenton, job seekers can connect with potential employers who are actively looking for new employees.
