Capitol Debate Summer Camps teach the fundamentals of public speaking and argumentation, enabling kids to develop core presentation and debating skills that boost confidence and self-esteem. Our debate camps teach students to structure arguments, prepare debate cases, research evidence, write rebuttal briefs, deliver speeches and refute opponent arguments. Capitol Debate's goal is to enrich the social, intellectual, and academic lives of our students through the art of communication. YWCA Princeton Stand Against Racism 21 Day Challenge - Launching April 4th and running until May 3rd, theStand Against Racism 21 Day Challenge is virtual learning tool designed to create dedicated time and space to build more effective social justice habits, particularly those dealing with issues of race, power, privilege, and leadership. Participants will download the Stand Against Racism App for their phone/tablet or log into the challenge website and are then presented with 21 days of impactful challenges such as reading an article, listening to a podcast, reflecting on personal experience and more.

MARK YOU CALENDAR – MAY 4 – NJ Bring Your Own Bag Goes Into Effect
The "Bag Up NJ" campaign is the New Jersey Clean Communities Council’s new single use plastic and paper bag ban outreach campaign, which has a simple message: Bring your own reusable bag(s) when you shop. Get in the habit before the law officially goes into effect on May 4, 2022 in NJ. On that date, stores will no longer provide single-use plastic bags. The law bans single-use plastic bags, regardless of thickness, at grocery stores and retail establishments, as well as paper bags at grocery stores at or larger than 2,500 square feet. It also bans polystyrene foam takeout food containers and other products such as plates, cups, food trays and utensils. HomeFront’s 2022 Diaper Challenge is ON - Goal is to collect 500,000 Diaper and Baby Wipes By Mother’s Day - Local nonprofit HomeFront wants to celebrate Mother’s Day by restocking the shelves of its Diaper Resource Center with 500,000 diapers and baby wipes donated by the community. Moms and babies are at the center of HomeFront’s work to help local families break the cycle of poverty. The nonprofit operates 36 programs to provide local families with shelter, food, essentials like diapers, and other life changing assistance like education, jobs, children’s programming. For community members interested in donating, or organizing a diaper collection, please find more information at www.homefrontnj.org

Boys and Girls Club Seeks Volunteers for New Chess Program - The Club is seeking volunteers to help lead a Chess Club Program. We are starting at two locations, and hope to eventually have a program at each program location. The planning committee meets quarterly.

Share My Meals, a Princeton, NJ-based nonprofit organization is actively seeking volunteers to help deliver meals to the unprivileged local families. Founded in January 2020, Share My Meals fights both food insecurity and the environmental impact of food waste by recovering and delivering healthy meals. Working with its local partners, the organization addresses these critical issues with a unique, tech-enabled model that recovers healthful, prepared meals, and delivers them directly to the homes of families in need. So far, Share My Meals has delivered 120,000 to 205 food-insecure families with the support of 20 food donors and 40 volunteers. Sign up here to join their mission and help the local community. 4/9 – Paul Robeson’s 124th Birthday Celebration, Arts Council of Princeton, 12-1pm., Join the Arts Council of Princeton and the Paul Robeson House of Princeton to commemorate Paul Robeson’s 124th Birthday. We will celebrate with the laying of a wreath on Robeson’s bust outside the Arts Council and the acknowledgment of the first Robeson Scholars to honor area students who excel in the arts and athletics. 4/9 – Mercer County Bike Drive, 12-4pm., Do you have a bike that you no longer use? Maybe you have one that your child has outgrown? Mercer County and the Park Commission are hosting a Bike Drive at several locations throughout the county. We will take your old bikes – no matter the condition – and give them to the Trenton Bike Exchange, a volunteer organization that collects, repairs, and sells used bikes at a very low price. The mission of the Bike Exchange is to help low-income families get decent bikes and to raise money for our local Boys and Girls Club. Besides having the satisfaction of knowing your old bike will be refurbished and put to good use, your donation is tax-deductible.

4/10 – ‘For the Beauty of the Earth Concert’, The Princeton Singers, 7pm., The Princeton Singers present For the Beauty of the Earth, including Artistic Director Steven Sametz’s new cantata, For the Earth. This concert is offered on the occasion of the exhibition Native America: In Translation, curated by the artist Wendy Red Star, which gathers work by Indigenous artists who consider the complex histories of colonialism, identity, and heritage. Student concerns over the climate crisis inspired Sametz to compose For the Earth during the pandemic when choirs could not rehearse in person. 4/12 – History Lecture - Spanning Water and Time: The Delaware River Bridges from the Estuary to the Water Gap, 7pm., Bridges have spanned the Delaware River between New Jersey and Pennsylvania for more than 200 years. The history of the Delaware River’s NJ-PA freshwater bridges includes early wooden structures, floods, fires, private stock-issuing companies, railroad barons, a trolley line, a free-bridges movement, and a new dual-span bridge with an attached shared-use path for pedestrians and bicyclists. Joe Donnelly, Deputy Executive Director of the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission, will talk about the area’s Delaware River bridges – from the Delaware Water Gap to Trenton – with slides of historic photographs, news items, documents, and maps. 90 minutes. 4/14 – WWAC Lunchtime Gallery Series 2: Objects Not Made for Museums, 1 - 2pm. We are excited to bring back our Gallery Series this spring virtually! 4/16 & 17Annual Bunny Chase Celebration, Terhune Orchards, 10-4pm., Spring has sprung at Terhune Orchards! Come for a fun event for all young ones and their families. Follow the treasure hunt clues around the farm, discovering the spring! Wonderful for children ages 2-8. At the end of the hunt, guests can choose to do a bunny craft activity and meet the real Terhune bunnies. Have fun on pony rides and in the children’s activity houses. Hungry? 4/19 - FYI Seminar: Exploring Senior Housing - Basics, Services, Costs, PSRC, 3pm., (In-Person — Hybrid at PSRC’s Poor Farm Road Location) There are many terms that describe the various types of senior housing, which can be confusing. This presentation will highlight five types of senior housing and the services and costs associated with each: independent living, affordable senior housing, continuing care retirement communities (life care retirement community), assisted living and respite, and memory care. 4/21 - Moving Forward: A Conversation About Life After Incarceration, The WorkWell Partnership, 7-9pm., Have you ever met a returning citizen? If not, it may be difficult to grasp the harsh reality of re-entry and the wondrous achievement of full reintegration. At this event, WorkWell Advisory Board member Dora Dunn will moderate a discussion with Barry Johnson, WorkWell consultant and Director of Uplift Solutions, and three WorkWell graduates. Please join us for light refreshments and informal conversation following the panel discussion. Pre-registration is encouraged but not required. 4/23 – LHT Celebrate Trails Day, 9:30am., The Lawrence Hopewell Trail will host a combined walk and bicycle in recognition of "Celebrate Trails Day," an annual spring celebration of America's trails. The event starts at 9:30 a.m. at the ETS parking lot on Assessment Road south of Messick Hall, near the trail kiosk. Leading the walkers on a two-mile walk will be LHT Trustees Becky Taylor and Leslie Floyd, while Trustee Ruth Markoe will lead cyclists on an eight-mile ride.
